Two Indiana school teachers have been accused of forcing a 7-year-old special education student to eat his own vomit, according to police.
Reprehensible accusations have come to light against two educators at the Brown Elementary School in Brownsburg, Indiana. The two educators with the Brownsburg Community School Corp. are accused of abusing a 7-year-old during class.
On April 20, the Brownsburg Police Department said its detectives found evidence of abuse of a 7-year-old male attending the Brown Elementary School in its Life Skills program.
Brown Elementary Life Skills Teacher Sara Seymour, 27, and Brown Elementary Life Skills Instructional Aide Debra Kanipe, 63, were each charged with neglect – a Level 6 felony – and failure to report – a Class B misdemeanor.
"The Hendricks County Prosecutor’s Office filed criminal charges against five staff members in connection with an incident in which a special education student was mistreated during lunch," WGN-TV reported. "Brownsburg Community School Police learned about the incident on April 12, although it occurred during a lunch period in February, according to the investigation."
In February, the teachers allegedly asked a special education student to eat his own vomit with a spoon with other children present, according to authorities. The teacher allegedly told the student that if he needed to vomit that he would need to eat whatever he puked. The child vomited on a tray provided by the second teacher, and the aide charged with neglect then gave the child a spoon, according to police.
WMTV reported, "The boy ate some of the vomit, then used paper towels to clean up what remained, police said."
The Brownsburg Community School Corp. said it removed five staffers from contact with students and placed them on administrative leave. Seymour and Kanipe were reportedly fired.
Superintendent Jim Snapp said in a statement, "We are deeply saddened by the actions of these staff members and will work in conjunction with our local law enforcement as they move forward with possible criminal charges."
The Brown Elementary School District noted, "BCSC has been notified that these two staff members will be charged by the Hendrick County Prosecutor. Two other staff members are also being charged for their roles in failing to report the incident. More details are forthcoming from the Brownsburg Police Department (BPD)."
The Brownsburg Police Department said in a statement, "As BPD releases more information about this incident, please know that the BCSC family will continue to be steadfast in our commitment to Brownsburg students, their safety, and their well-being."
The police said on Wednesday, "Ultimately, the termination process for Seymour and Kanipe was initiated while the others remain on administrative leave pending the BCSC School Board rulings."
The Brownsburg Community School Corporation said in a statement, "This horrendous action is not in line with the character of staff and teachers at Brownsburg Schools. The shocking actions of a few does not define the care and concern that Brownsburg teachers and staff show every day."
A former co-worker of mine told me his mother and father were on their honeymoon in the Bahamas back in the 50’s and they met Picasso on the beach as he was painting something. Then I remember the current times we are in and what is going on in the world at this time and I realize ANYTHING is now possible to believe.
They should make it legal to use people like that for bear bait.
I have a special needs son. If this ever happened to him, there would be nothing stopping me from destroying those involved.

Have had to listen to this story everyday this week. We wondered if it would make it to national news. Hubby wondered how they thought of this, and how they thought it was a good idea. Home schooling never sounded so good.
I went to elementary schools in the 60’s.
I cannot imagine any of my teachers ever doing such a thing......................
They are part of unions that make it really hard to fire any teacher, especially if they are lefties. I wish we could go back to when schools were much more proactive in their hiring of good teachers that cared about the students and not their benefits$$.

They are a protected class, always deserving of more money according to the left, and are unionized so have a job for life pretty much no matter how bad they are.

They are not a protected class in all states. In Georgia, they MUST conform to the crap sent down from on high or have their teaching certificate pulled.
All the teachers are doing is beginning, at an early age, the enslavement process that their birth parents have gladly accepted...

I’ve never heard of anything like this happening in GA. As Paul Harvey used to say, “And now the rest of the story ......” This teacher must have severe mental issues and some lucky parents will soon be able to pay off their home and finance their kids college educations.
I’ve never heard of anything nasty like this happening in Georgia either. By in large, schools in Georgia do not suffer from the same sort of rot.

We never should have allowed teachers’ unions.
In my day, the worst that would happen to a kid was a silly punishment. It was for breaking the rules, not for a circumstance beyond a child’s control.
For example, chewing gum in school was a no-no. If teacher caught you, you would have to sit up front in the “naughty” chair, with the piece of gum stuck on your nose.
These two should never be allowed near children again.
