Don Lemon and Tucker Carlson are hiring the same powerhouse lawyer — who's helped TV hosts secure multimillion-dollar payouts from their old networks

Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon have hired the same lawyer after leaving their respective networks.

Bryan Freedman is known as the go-to lawyer for multimillion-dollar payouts in messy media breakups.

He's worked for former TV hosts at ABC, NBC, and CNN, and a long list of celebrities.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson and CNN anchor Don Lemon both left their networks on Monday and have just hired the same powerhouse lawyer to handle their departures, according to multiple reports.

Neither host has announced a lawsuit or dispute against their employers. But the litigator they've retained — Bryan Freedman — has a record of helping TV hosts secure millions from their old networks.

Former CNN chief media correspondent Brian Stelter reported that both Carlson and Lemon are retaining Freedman's services, while The New York Times also wrote that Lemon had hired Freedman.

Messy media breakups are a staple for Freedman, famed for aggressively representing a laundry list of the entertainment world's most prominent figures. His clients include Vin Diesel, Quentin Tarantino, and Mariah Carey.

Freedman previously worked to help former host Megyn Kelly secure around $30 million from NBC News after she parted ways with the network in 2019. Kelly was fired halfway through her three-year contract worth $69 million, but NBC agreed to pay her the remainder of her original salary.

When I got the boot, I didn’t have a lawyer to go negotiate a better settlement for me. What was I thinking?

Don Leomon apparently worked there for 17 years and they didn’t even let him go face to face. He really did get the shaft. Shouldn’t he be happy? I’m confused.

If Tucker Carlson is hiring a top lawyer like this, then perhaps that CTH article posted here earlier today — with all its silly, unsourced speculation — had it all wrong. The CTH article claimed that Carlson would be paid out for the remainder of his contract and would have no non-compete restrictions. This sounded preposterous to me.

I thought I read that Carlson was getting about $20 million/year and will get the rest of the money due under his contract.

If Lemon was terminated for cause, he might not get every cent possible.

I read that Shell will get nothing after the tip of the boot.

One of my all time favorite radio personalities is the great Lee Rodgers. At times Lee would relate the realities to the radio business. While one had a contract, one could be fired at almost any moment. The reasons for firing could vary widely, from lack of listeners and / or sponsors, to the whims of management and owners. Lee always made sure that he had a contact that stated just how long and how much he would get paid. He related past disputes where he was at home, not retired, but at home for months while someone paid him still, even though they had technically fired him (took him off the air). One of the last times he experienced this, I managed to exchange a few emails. He stated that yes, he still had a contract and “the lawyers are working it out.” I am sure he received what was in the contract.

This is probably what Carlson is doing

Lee Rodgers had the best name for President Clinton. Clinton was never ‘The Man From Hope (Arkansas). He was born in Hot Springs. Rodgers called him: The Hillbilly Whorehopper From Hot Springs.

No, even if you are a piece of crap as Don Lemon was, if management was halfway decent and not a bigger piece of crap than Don Lemon they would have called him in, face to face and fired him, that’s the decent thing to do, I’ve fired people and been fired and face to face is not easy but always better.

If Tucker was being paid for the remainder of his contract, and had no non-disclosure or non-compete restrictions, then why would he take any legal action against Fox News over his termination/resignation, whatever the official reason for him no longer being at Fox News is?

Sounds like something doesn’t add up here.

It was sad when Lee passed.
Do you remember Lee’s rants regarding EVs?

I got booted from a job and they didn't pay me the bonus I was supposed to get for high-volume sales. I was young and just figured it was part of the world I was finding out about. Many years later a lawyer said "Oh, yeah I could have got you that and maybe a lot more, too."

Later some of my former employees told me that a month later the place was so badly managed the volume fell down far below what it was when I got there! Haha! These places don't just get high volume by themselves!

I heard Tucker was supposed to be getting $20 a year for 3 years. That’s his remaining contract.

How long will it be before the "legal community" forces Freedman to drop Carlson as a client?

Maybe someone will tell him, off the record of course, that if he keeps Carlson it will ruin his record when the judges decline Carlson's cases? Does Freedman really want a high-profile loss on his résumé, they will ask?

If he got the shaft I'm betting it's not his first shifting.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.....

This is out of Stelter’s mouth? Forgive my skepticism, but I don’t trust a word out of that greasy pissant’s mouth. I’ll believe it when it’s confirmed by someone I trust.

No matter how ironclad a contract, such as a pre-nup, is, when push comes to shove, there is room to push and shove some more.

Maybe all of Tucker’s “private” emails turned up in the Dominion case discovery, for example, where he vilified President Trump and Tucker’s Fox colleagues, need protection from leakage.
