With obesity rates still rising, the hunt is on for ways to combat the negative effects of a high fat diet. Researchers now believe they have discovered a possible answer—probiotic supplementation.
Robin Couch and Allyson Dailey partnered with the U.S.D.A. to explore the influence of probiotic supplementation on a higher fat diet, using pigs as model organisms.
The research team looked at four groups of pigs—two groups that were fed nutritionally balanced diets with and without probiotic supplementation, and two groups that were fed higher fat diets with and without probiotic supplementation. The probiotic that was tested is known as Lacticaseibacillus paracasei. After six months of dietary intake, organ tissue samples obtained from the pigs were examined, specifically looking at their molecular composition.
Couch and Dailey were looking at specifically at metabolites, substances that are produced or used during metabolism. They found that the kidneys and the brain were particularly sensitive to a high-fat diet and when certain metabolites were noted to be at harmful levels, the kidneys and the brain were the most susceptible.
In contrast, they also discovered that, with probiotic supplementation, many of the detrimental metabolite levels reverted to levels found in pigs that were fed a healthy diet.
"We'd like to see probiotic intake become a regular part of the dietary recommendations that a physician would give to a patient," said Dailey.
The researchers are also aiming to investigate other probiotic strains.
"This is progress towards providing new evidence that probiotics are good for you and that what you consume has a profound effect on your health," said Dailey. "These findings can contribute to the creation of revolutionary solutions, and, in the end, that's why I'm in this—to help people thrive."

Table 2 in the free study shows the specific metabolites that appear to be either negated (stoppage of any negative movement) or made to go in the fully opposite direction. As they were organ metabolites, I knew almost none of them, due to their specificity.
Still, it seems to have convinced the researchers that the probiotic reversed enough critical metabolites that it effectively undid what a a high-fat, high-carb diet directly forced on organs.
Fat is not the problem! Good Lord!
Yogurt has probiotics. It is a good source.
Exactly.
Decades ago, a great battle ensued between the fat industry and the sugar industry. Sugar won, fat lost. Now tons of products are low-fat, and high sugar.
A *very* low carb, moderate protein, high fat diet will lower obesity, lower BP, lower any systemic inflammation, and overall improve health.
Fat makes us satiated. Sugar is quick energy with a slump. We’ve cut out all unnatural added sugars and have no problem maintaining our health.
What foods are high in Lactobacillus paracasei?
Species belonging to the L. casei group may be isolated mainly from milk and dairy products, but also from fermented sausages, vegetables, wine, and, occasionally, from sourdough.

Can the benift be obtained by taking (Lactobacillius) Acidopholus?
SOme 25 years ago, I met someone who took this for his health, along with Blue Algae. This is long before the average person was talking about anything Probiotic related.
Then I came to my senses...If I didn't need them for 75 years, and nothing has changed...why do I need them now...since I weigh exactly the same as I did when I was 18?...and my diet is the same, my system is very regular...
I ferment. Kimchee, kraut mostly. Pickle chicken feet and eggs on occasion. Pickled cakes and beef hotdogs and hotlinks every week.
That’s awesome. I’ve only ever done pickles. I love Kimchi, if you would share your recipe with me, I’ll certainly give it a shot.
Now, pickled cakes? That’s different. I’m curious about that, too.
yes
Pickled cakes. Dang auto spell. Pickled cukes.
Pickled hot dogs last about a day around here. Eggs and chicken feet last about 30 minutes when kids come over.
“organ tissue samples obtained from the pigs”
How?
There is a variety on YouTube. Tanja rocks.
Hillbilly Kitchen does well.
Arron Brown (AB Cooks), he will school you.check him out.
I’m on a high fat diet and am losing weight.
“negative effects of a high fat diet”
I guess lower blood sugar, lower blood pressure and less inflamation are some of the “negative effects”.
