Humans to achieve immortality in 8 YEARS, says former Google engineer

Aformer Google engineer has made a stark realization that humans will achieve immortality in eight years - and 86 percent of his 147 predictions have been correct.

Ray Kurzweil spoke with the YouTube channel Adagio, discussing the expansion in genetics, nanotechnology, and robotics, which he believes will lead to age-reversing 'nanobots.'

These tiny robots will repair damaged cells and tissues that deteriorate as the body ages and make us immune to diseases like cancer.

The predictions that such a feat is achievable by 2030 have been met with excitement and skepticism, as curing all deadly diseases seems far out of reach.

Kurzweil was hired by Google in 2012 to 'work on new projects involving machine learning and language processing,' but he was making predictions in technological advances long before.

In 1990, he predicted the world's best chess player would lose to a computer by 2000, and it happened in 1997 when Deep Blue beat Gary Kasparov.

Kurzweil made another startling prediction in 1999: he said that by 2023 a $1,000 laptop would have a human brain's computing power and storage capacity.

Now the former Google engineer believes technology is set to become so powerful it will help humans live forever, in what is known as the singularity.

Singularity is a theoretical point when artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence and changes the path of our evolution, LifeBoat reports.

Kurzweil, an author who describes himself as a futurist, predicted that technological singularity would happen by 2045, with AI passing a valid Turing test in 2029.

It is a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human.

Slightly Off Topic:

Ray Kurzweil’s youtube channel is named Adagio.
Adagio is an Italian word for slowly.
It’s often used to describe classical music.

One of my favorite Adagios would be a violin concerto; “Adagio in G Minor by
Tomaso Albinoni.
Very nice. It’s serene, yet captivating.

All humans are actually immortal.

It’s just what awaits us on the other side of death that people need to be concerned about.

Just the billionaires.

The rest of us will continue to die sooner and sooner.

Which is, as I understand it, the "safe and effective" method.

😉👌

I’m a former Google engineer as well and can I have a very good track record of predictions (if you count only my predictions about what day of the week the next day will be). And I ask how the heck does this establish me as a trustworthy source if and when I predict something crazy?

I'm pretty sure that God's plan for us was to live forever with Him in the Garden of Eden (the entire Earth?). His warning of eating of the tree of knowledge warned of “you shall die”.

Death is a blessing given to us so that we don't have to live in a sinful world forever.

Another take on it is from the group RUSH, where the singer seeks and finds eternal life in the fabled land of Xanadu and then:

A thousand years have come and gone
But time has passed me by
Stars stopped in the sky
Frozen in an everlasting view
Waiting for the world to end
Weary of the night
Praying for the light
Prison of the lost — Xanadu

I recall some TV show (Twilight Zone?) where the bad guy finds the ice caves of Xanadu and drinks and gets eternal life. Afterwards somehow a big chunk of ice traps his legs and he is bent over awkwardly and the camera pans out to the empty snowy scene around him with his screams in the background.

Yeah, they’ll be immortal until they die.

Of course, if he means you won’t be subject to the degenerative issues old age brings, then great. Something will still get you, and the longer you live, the higher the probability a moron behind the wheel, an airplane crash, sharks, whatever, will intersect your local space/time coordinates one day.

I do not think they know of what they speak, but, I will mark my calendar for 8 years from now. We shall see...if we last 8 years..AI and all.

Any long life will be intolerable and expensive and if you can’t pay you are a useless bother. Then again, you may have an option.

Let’s see, we will be a servants to birth to abt. 55, but because you do not contribute to the almighty ruler at a certain age may be allowed to do a ‘non-assisted’ and non-paid by the rulers.

Watched Temple of Doom last night.
Got me to thinking again.
And there is always Soylent Green for, “that thing, you know, Green Planet”, when the food is gone.

I’m down today! Sorry for the sickening rant.

I would have said Kurzweil was nuts 5 months ago—but AI has changed all that. What it does is vastly accelerate the speed at which people figure things out.

If its not about the nanobots. Its about the speed at which people figure things out. So if its not nanobots, it will be something else.
