Ford plans to build 500,000 EVs annually at its $5.6 billion Tennessee campus

Ford Motor's new plant being constructed outside Memphis, Tennessee, will be capable of building 500,000 electric vehicles annually at full production, the company said Friday.

The first and only product to be announced thus far for the "BlueOval City" plant is a next-generation electric truck, which Ford has code-named "T3," short for "TrustTheTruck."

"Project T3 is a once in-a-lifetime opportunity to revolutionize America's truck," Ford CEO Jim Farley said Friday in a release. "It will be a platform for endless innovation and capability."

Additional products using Ford's next-generation EV architecture could be produced alongside the truck, however a company spokesman declined to comment on future product plans for the plant.

Ford and South Korea-based battery supplier SK On are investing $5.6 billion in the BlueOval City campus, including a large battery cell plant. Production at the plants is on track to begin in 2025, Ford said Friday.

I see your point, but in the end it will end up biting them in the ass.

Maybe. But if we're not careful, we will end up becoming "little people".

The EV client list is like the “who’s a liberal” list in America.

500k cars times say $10k loss per car would be $5 billion loss per year. Yikes.

The F150 (gasoline powered) is still the most popular vehicle in the US. It would be stupid to stop making them. I own two. 1999 F150 SuperCab with 5.4L V8 and 2015 F150 SuperCrew with 4.6L V6 EcoBoost engine. I'll probably keep them for the duration of my time on the green side of the grass. At 67, I'm not signing a multiple year contract to buy an EV I don't want. The contract might outlive me.

Good luck selling these in cold weather states.

We ditched our California cars when we moved to Pocatello, ID. Much of the year is sub-freezing and streets often need 4x4 to traverse safely. It's still snowing with temps in the 20's this week. I'm waiting for some weekend days with temps above 50F to swap out the wheel set on my Suzuki DR650 to 17" supermoto street tires.

What he should have said: “Project T3 is a once in-a-lifetime opportunity for Ford to declare Chapter 11,” Ford CEO Jim Farley

There will be NO POWER SUPPLY for all these EVs. NONE!!! Unless we build nuke plants and that won’t happen. Wind and Solar will NEVER provide enough reliable, low-price, steady power.

All of this is driven by greeniacs who have captured the federal government and board rooms by pushing insane fear.

It is not based in reality or facts.

Somewhere between the mandated buying and the mandated toxic waste fee at end of life will be the mandated $20,000 replacement battery pack.

“All the manufacturers are doubling down on stupidity and the politicians are destabilizing the economy”

Bingo. All because few people are willing to scream IT WON’T WORK and IT WON’T CHANGE THE TEMPERATURE 100 YEARS FROM NOW at all.

Honest engineers know the impossibility of this green wet dream.

“No one will use gas except for the military.”

The problem is that there won’t be enough market to justify R&D to improve the diesel and gasoline powered vehicle market. The whole liquid fuel market for propulsion will wither away.

Electric tanks? Electric troop transports? Electric mobile howitzers? Electric HIMARS? Electric helicopters?

Utter insanity. Nobody is thinking this through honestly...UNLESS the true mission is to destroy the USA.

Where’s the electricity going to come from to run all these EVs? What’s it going to cost as demand increases and supply doesn’t?

Coming soon. Local Memphis airport runways filled with unsold Ford truck inventory. The blue oval is now a blue egg.
