Why hypersonic weapons change everything (They can sink ALL of the U.S. aircraft carriers, all at once)

When it comes to all matters military, I have been following a handful of analysts among whom Croatian Admiral Davorin Domazet (retired) emerged as perhaps my favorite. He has deep and detailed command of technical matters (like Andreiy Martyanov he insists that you can’t prevail in modern warfare without deep knowledge of of advanced mathematics and probability). More importantly, he has perhaps the clearest understanding of the broad historical context of today’s clash between Russia and the western powers.

Any country sinks a carrier needs to understand they will lose a city or two in response. That is proportional warfare.

A CIWS installation is 7 tons by itself, not including ammo

A carrier is over 100,000 tons. Installing 100 CIWS would STILL be less than 1% of the carrier's displacement.

What's your point?

Our military leadership are obsessed with climate change — our most important defense challenge don’t you know — and making sure that our military is “equitable” and is comprised, in great enough numbers, of every type of sexual whackadoo that has floated to the top of the cesspool. Doubt they have enough time and mental bandwidth left over for serious warfighting tasks

Relevant: Pentagon Official Says He Resigned Because US Cybersecurity Is No Match for China

A senior cybersecurity official at the Pentagon said he quit because he thought it was impossible for the US to compete with China on AI.

Nicolas Chaillan joined the U.S. Air Force as its first chief software officer in August 2018. He worked to equip it and the Pentagon with the most secure and advanced software available.

But Chaillan quit on September 2. In his departing LinkedIn post, he cited the Pentagon's reluctance to make cybersecurity and AI a priority as a reason for his resignation.

Speaking to the Financial Times in his first interview since leaving, Chaillan said China was far ahead of the US.

"We have no competing fighting chance against China in fifteen to twenty years. Right now, it's already a done deal; it is already over in my opinion," he said. - https://www.military.com/daily-news/2021/10/12/pentagon-official-says-he-resigned-because-us-cybersecurity-no-match-china.html

Countering this is the news of, The Pentagon Forming a Diversity and Inclusion Office, and

allowing transgenders to serve in the military,

and with the Pentagon even ensuring free gender reassignment surgery for active military personnel,

with Army mandatory training now including training Army personnel to know what to do in such scenarios as when a soldier who was "assigned" a biological gender at birth says he/she identifies as another gender, and lives as such in off-duty hours, but is not requesting to be treated as such while on duty, versus if such later requests to be identified as according to their chosen gender during duty hours, and/or experiences increased distress relating to his/her gender identity;

while apparently as part of the Naval Sea Systems Command Inclusion & Engagement Council’s Diversity Team's video series called “NAVSpEAks,” the Navy posts video on "the importance of using correct pronouns as well as polite etiquette when you may not be sure of someone's pronouns"

and the Air Force being with WOKEism in creating 'LGBTQ' and 'Indigenous Nations Equality' Focus Groups,

and also authorizing the use of gender pronouns in signature blocks,

and hosting a drag show at festival at Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE) on July, 2022, which also includes a poem on “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,”

while the Army arms itself with a woke recruitment ad featuring lesbians at a gay wedding and an LGBTQ pride march,

and the CIA funds a 'cisgender millennial with anxiety disorder' campaign, and with the

Marines and Navy as well as the Air Force and Army posting messages on social media supporting gay pride and Pride Month,

with the former posting rainbow bullets, and the latter a rainbow colored arm and hand in salute (essentially to the flag of Sodom)

and with the Navy naming a military ship after gay rights leader Harvey Milk, and (now) with a transgender veteran christening it,

along with the Navy's first all gay U.S. Navy helicopter crew,

and with physical fitness assessment failures being now scrubbed from sailors’ records, a clean slate that will allow them to remain in the service,

and lower fitness standards for women in the Army,

while nearly half of female soldiers are still failing the new Army Fitness Test,

and with military generals calling for Increased Diversity and More Women in Combat,

and changing its song to be gender-neutral,

and Forcing Marines to Make Boot Camp Coed,

and feeding cadets cultural Marxist propaganda about gender and masculinity therein,

to its new diversity and inclusion operation from West Point

and for its Special Operations Command ,

while showing a rapid response readiness to engage in online combat with the likes of Tucker Carson and other such enemies

thus nuking Jesus-themed candies on an Air Force bases

as well as the Pentagon ordering a company to stop making faith-based Dog Tags,

and prohibiting service members from “liking” or reposting "extremist" views on social media (depending on all the circumstances involved) as part of its prohibition against actively engaging in extremist activities,

yet allowing turbans and hijabs in the Air Force,

while working to rid the military of “extremism

such as the head of the US Space Force unit being fired and put under investigation for criticizing Critical Race Theory

And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. (Ezra 9:6)

Also, last I saw, More Than 75% Of Americans Aged 17-24 Aren’t Fit For Military Service: (DOD) 77% of Americans in the above age group could not physically qualify to enter the armed forces – a 6% increase from 2017..CDC statistics also show that 19 percent of active-duty service members suffered from obesity in 2020, which is up from 16 percent in 2015. A U.S. Army general bluntly said that young Americans are either too obese, too sick, or too criminal to serve in the military. we have are obesity, we have pre-existing medical conditions, we have behavioral health problems, we have criminality, people with felonies, and we have drug use,” Lt. Gen. Xavier Brunson told The Spokesman-Review of Spokane, Washington.

And the Army dropped grenade throwing as a requirement to graduate because new recruits could not throw far enough. “We are finding that there are a large number of trainees that come in that quite frankly just physically don’t have the capacity to throw a hand grenade 20 to 25 [82 feet] to 30 meters." Also, there is the Intellectual Decline of the Army Officer Corps. The size of the U.S. military in 2017 was half of what it was in 1990, and in general I think many signed up for the benefits rather than patriotism. 16% were women and racial and ethnic minorities made up 43%, and a poll from the Military Times and Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families conducted in July 2020, 49.9 percent of 1,018 active-duty military respondents had an unfavorable view of the president, compared to about 38 percent who had a favorable view. That poll showed Biden with a 4-percentage-point lead over Trump

Seems to me the weak point of a hypersonic missile would be its targeting system, which, given that it is aimed at moving objects, would have to be external, likely satellite (or balloon, lol). Take that out, the missile just flies really fast for a while.

7 tons in the wrong place, times multiple installations, can be a stability problem.

See what happened in Typhoon Cobra.

Assuming you even *see* the hypersonic missile ahead of time, sure. Problem is, such drones do not have much loiter time so you can’t always have them up or they’d interfere with air operations... Were I to execute such an attack, I’d have the first wave of hypersonic missiles down at seaskimming altitudes before they get over the radar horizon of my targets.

Also, in the case of a ballistic hypersonic missile, they can avoid that by putting an armored nose on it. Even if you manage to destroy the thing as a functional missile, you’re still getting hit by several tons moving at a high mach number. Once the velocity gets high enough, you don’t really even need explosives if you have enough mass...

Moskva was a glass cannon and everyone knew it. Those launchers on deck were a hell of a Sunday punch but unless they got those off before a strike landed, the thing was horribly vulnerable. It made sense as a Black Sea combatant at the time of construction.

Negative. Optical pattern recognition is a thing, especially with modern AI - you could give it a general area prior to launch, or you could use a ground link to update. The missile doesn’t *have* to radiate and give itself away.

"Simply swarm the incoming path of the hyper with several thousand drones carrying either explosives or steel bearings, and detonate when needed."

If it should accidently strike a bird at Mach 5 that should still release a fair amount of kinetic energy.

"I am confident that our folks at Cal and MIT have been working on this for years. I cannot imagine the military leadership sitting on their asses, wringing their hands about how these smart Russians beat us. When assessing risks you cannot assume that there is no countering action. I see that mistake made on FR all the time. Just because the countermeasures aren’t found on Yahoo News, doesn’t mean they don’t exist."
