Sleeping on your back
Advantages:

So which side is best? A recent study published in the journal Sensors found that sleeping on your right side, combined with lower rates of turning, promoted higher quality sleep. However, left-side sleeping is ideal for those with acid reflux and GERD because it decreases pressure on internal organs.

I found three cushion sofa is the best. You can flip cushions around and there no seam getting in the way as with two cushiond sofa.
Why do Vets have more sleep apnea? Im a Vet. Im sure I have it too. I saw it on the VA disabilities list, how is it service connected?
Side sleepers: Cross your arms in front of your chest so that the shoulder that is down is the arm that’s against your chest. Your thumbs should be on either side of your lower jaw. This pose will cause your (down side) elbow to stabilize your side resting position and the sides of your thumbs will stabilize the position of your head for best breathing. Most people find that it is quite comfortable. HTH.
I found sleeping in a recliner provides the best sleep. Been doing it for at least 5 years maybe longer. Tried many different mattresses over the years and always woke up with an aching back and stuffed up head. The recliner fixed all that.
I could never sleep on my stomach. Someone else's stomach was blissful.
Sprawled on the floor next to ten or twenty empties doesn’t make the cut, huh?

This is not necessarily correct at all. I have lower back problems and sleeping on my back is terrible for me.

I used to wake up 12-15 times a night. Occasionally I’d wake up gasping for air and I snored like a chainsaw.
I discovered that if I sleep on the recliner in my sofa - ie a bit inclined - I often sleep through the night. At any rate I don’t wake up nearly as often, and I feel more refreshed when I wake up in the morning. My brother discovered the same thing on his own several months ago too and sleeps in his recliner chair now. I haven’t slept in my bed in about 4-5 months.
It would take me getting an adjustable bed to go back.
Wouldn't sleeping on the left side increase pressure on stomach and be the worst choice for GERD sufferers? Back/elevated should be the best.
Personally I prefer tossing and turning.
Studies show that sleeping upside down, hanging from a closet rod like grandpa Munster reduces pillow burn on your face, decreases the likelyhood of bedhead, increases blood circulation to your brain and if the closet door is closed, reduces ambient light for a very restful slumber.

Put bed and couch in the same room or at least on the same floor.
I suspect most couch-sleepers do it because it’s easier to configure a couch to your body, make it more comfortable than a flat bed. Else why do it?
But if you’re getting up in the middle of the night and you’re past the age where broken bones don’t scare you...sleep on the same floor where the bathroom is.
Two people I know recently suffered falls, broken legs and hip, from simple trips to the bathroom. One died last week from the aftereffects (lengthy hospital stay, infection, embolism, death).
If you are looking at retirement and want it long and comfortable, the first thing to do with your nest egg is fix yourself up with a senior-safe bathroom. Otherwise you’re only a little safer than if you stagger out and cross the highway in the middle of the night.
Read a couple years ago about sleeping with your socks on and it works.
LOL i not only like a rock solid travel size pillow, my mattress has to be like the floor with a little give. Springs! memory foam makes me feel like I am laying on extremely slow quick sand. I hate it.
