Louise O’Neill: Push out creeping transphobia to protect vulnerable kids (hurl alert)
Sunday Times ^ | 12th March 2023 | Loiuse O NEill

There is something very amusing about Catholics talking about beliefs that have no scientific consensus. I was raised in the church and, although I’m not religious any more, I still believe in God. I believe in something greater than us, shaping our lives in ways that we cannot even

begin to understand. I’m out here, all the live-long day, praying to my guardian angels for help with parking spots and to ensure the plane doesn’t crash in the middle of particularly nasty turbulence.

However, I have absolutely no proof that any of these things exist, outside of my belief in them. I’ve never met God or an angel — but I have met trans people. I know trans people exist. I know they are real.

In January, Roderic O’Gorman, the minister for children, said that pupils should be educated in schools about what it means to be transgender, saying it is important children have “an understanding of the diversity of our society”. His comments were backed last week by Leo Varadkar, the taoiseach, who said: “I think the purpose of the education system is to prepare children for life and to teach them about the world. Trans people exist. They have always existed . . . This does not have to be a value judgment as to whether it is right or wrong.”

This all sounds pretty reasonable, one would imagine, but not according to the Catholic Primary Schools Management Association. The CPSMA, which represents 89 per cent of primary schools in this country — truly, only in Ireland would a single organisation have such sway in its sector — outlined the views of its members in a letter to O’Gorman, which it copied to Norma Foley, the education minister. The letter argued that introducing the topic of transgender identity in schools could create “division”, saying: “There is no scientific consensus on the cause (or causes) of gender dysphoria.” The letter added that it might contribute to “a growing psychological contagion” among children.

Science supports the existence of trans people. Science is what is telling us that sex and gender are two separate things, and that sex is not binary. How else do you explain the existence of intersex people, a term used for when a person is born with reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t fit the boxes of female or male, of whom there are approximately 75,000 in Ireland?

The second part of the CPSMA’s argument, that teaching children about transgender identity could add to a “growing psychological contagion”, is also nonsensical. It sounds like a shlocky horror movie, a Fox News remake of Outbreak, designed to stir up as much hysteria as it possibly can. Forget Covid, we’re all about to catch transgenderism.

Do you really think it’s that easy to give children “ideas” about their identity? By that logic, every kid who came of age in the Eighties and Nineties would have been turned straight by the heterosexual agenda that was pushed by Disney and Big Rom-Com, and there wouldn’t be a gay person to be found in our generation.

In the ten years between 2011 and 2021, only 234 Irish and young people were referred to the Tavistock clinic in the UK for treatment of gender dysphoria. This is not a decision that is taken lightly, by doctors, parents or the children themselves. It is a long, slow, arduous process; it is not a passing trend like slime or Pokémon.

It’s bad enough that yet again we are outsourcing vital and life-changing healthcare to our nearest neighbour — did we learn nothing from the fight for abortion access? — rather than ensuring that there is regionally based care here. But we are also not doing enough to fight the transphobia that is creeping into Irish society. Despite making up less than 1 per cent of the world’s population, this vulnerable and increasingly marginalised group of people has become a lightning rod for an unnecessary culture war.

One would hope that by teaching children of the importance of empathy and respect for the identities of others, we could make the world a little better for their trans classmates. But if the CPSMA is determined to insist that we shouldn’t expose children to beliefs that cannot be scientifically proven, who am I to argue? Let the association have its way. Let’s remove religion from schools. Let’s separate church and state once and for all.

Cut the transadvocation stupid bitch if you value your life. People are getting pretty fed up with this crap. All it will take is something like an economic collapse and it will get extremely violent. They will be coming for your ass.

You may have met a murderer. They are real. Even if you haven’t met them.

Therefore, we must accommodate murderers and validate them..

Geesh.

Science says no such thing. Science says that other than a miniscule percentage of what are basically mutations, all humans are born XX or XY chromosomes with gentalia that matches the pattern.

Science has recognized gender dysphoria but has properly until recently relegated it as a mental disorder: the brain not “agreeing” with the sexual assignment. There is also the same disorder with non-sexual body parts (arms, legs, etc.) but science does not try to say that the corrective action is to lop off the offending appendage.

No, it is the cultural phenomenon of allowing and encouraging any sexual desire, including pedophilia btw, which is “recognized.”

THIS. IS. NOT. SCIENCE.

“Science is what is telling us that sex and gender are two separate things, and that sex is not binary. “

Legitimate science is telling us no such thing. Pseudo social sciences that have no qualms about pulling theories out of bungholes are preaching those lies.

Transphobia sounds like a medieval sister city to Transylvania.

Ah yes, like climate change, gender biology, renewable energy, electric cars, gun control, speech control, defunding cops...

“Transgender”, at which this supposed “transphobia” is directed, is not a real thing. It is dress-up costumed playtime, acting out fantasies. The “phobia” comes in when those who participate in this fantasy begin to believe that they are serious, and they cannot ever do that convincingly.

To enjoy a work of fiction, it is necessary to suspend disbelief in the veracity of the narrative, and allow the story to develop as an intellectual concept. There is an internal logic in fiction, which real life simply does not have to conform with. Life is chaotic and sometimes very messy, and the contradictions are rarely or never answered.

Transvestitism and its stepchild, “transgenderism”, are works of fiction and cannot translate to the real world. This perversity becomes a sort of art form, with its own stylings and arcane meanings, but means little outside its scope. This social construct shall eventually devolve into its own small niche, and be largely forgotten as the fad that it is.

Nobody wears “duck-tail” haircuts any more. Or bell-bottom jeans.

Guardian angels don't help with parking spots. Their primary duty is to urge, nudge, cajole, and guide people to Christ and to moral lifestyle choices.

Yes, I believe in guardian angels.

Cross dressers have been around a long time. Now they call them Trans. Some are even dumb enough to get surgery to mutilate themselves.

This is a mental illness that should be treated on a one on basis and group therapy. Not something the general public should have shoved down their throats to be “accepting”. The public has been accepting for decades. We may not understand it but the vast majority of us just steer clear of them while they (hopefully) get treatment.

They are not our concern until they push their mental illness on our kids and us. Then they make it our business to deal with. They probably won’t like how it’s dealt with.

Perhaps it’s time to open compounds where all of them can live happily ever after without being a major problem for the public and the children in particular.

Yeah, SantaClausScience supports lots of silliness: evolution, anthropogenic climate change, et al.
Real science? Not so much.
