DEY TOOK MAH JOB! DEY TERK MEH JERB! D'TERK M'JERB! DURKA DURKA DERRRR!
So, a layoff is imminent. My company, a health insurance company, is getting rid of a large bread-and-butter portion of their focus, namely Employee Group insurance. That's the health insurance component that employers give employees.
Guess what area of the company I work for?
The layoff could occur as soon as 60 days from now, or (at max) 6 months from now.
So my manager, who really loves my work, gave me a inside-scoop that our area (Producer Services, basically sales commissions for agents) is going away. I think I better proactively move.
So, any Freepers who need a skilled web- and winforms-developer who is an expert in SQL, please contact me.
A little of what I offer:
If you know someone who is in the industry in a hiring authority (or even not!), ping them to this thread.
This is a difficult time for even experienced developers. There are lots of people from Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, and excetera who are very skilled and who are competing with people like me. However, I got something they don't: I'm not a liberal woke a-hole. :)
I wish you good luck finding another job!
I’m good for a while, but time passes quickly!
You guys already know, but I’m taking the occasion to ping you, solely to bump the thread. :)
Im glad you have notice of your soon lost job. You will find another, hopefully.
DEY TERK MER JERB
Prayers and good wishes for your future.
Laz, are you in any position to retire?
I have need of a man with your skills for my organization.
Do you knkw where I can find my organization?
Based on the headline alone, I guessed you worked at a Walmart in Portland. lol
For freelancing;
Web and/or App dev is the huge right now so I would focus on learning some front end dev while looking/listing for backend stuff. There are quite a few freelancer sites that you can list your experience/services on.
Warning on front end web stuff. It changes fast.
For a new job?
I have no idea but there are websites for that too.
I chased jobs from FL to MO once. Moved back to FL and now I’m back to MO for he rest of my days.
If do want to or end up having to move, try to find a spot just outside the metro area of a mid sized city in a red state. Might be some conservative techies there already.
I gotta say I was a top rated engineer ($$$$$) when I got laid off at 57 years of age. I couldn’t find jack in my field - that would pay anything. Did my own business for a bit (still high tech), but got beat out by India.. Retired early, help a neighbor with his business and my son with his...
Good luck! That new door is opening
Glad you got some heads up, bro. Best of luck to ya.

Why not be a social media influencer?
Try Sabre technology and also other areas in the travel industry
I hope your search yields great results. You may end up with a better job once all is said and done.
Seriously, good luck buddy.
Being laid off from the Mega-Corp was hard on our wallet but did open up doors because I had to get creative.
Now if only the government would stop slamming those doors on my fingers....
Yon't mine?
When the place I worked for closed unexpectedly I just changed my pronouns to Bum/Hobo and it worked out fine.
Good luck. You’re already using contacts, which is always so recommended. And proactive is smart.
