Andrew Peters, 28, died Feb. 16 while fighting alongside the International Legion of the Defense of Ukraine, the man’s father told Wisconsin Public Radio in an email.

Good book idea.
“A terrible waste. I hope god forgives him, it was none of his business.”
If you believe he needs God’s forgiveness in this situation, you really are dumber or more meanspirited than I thought.
You're being moronic, there is no lipstick.
Are you hot over his choice in lipstick? Maybe ruby red does something for you. I'm starting to understand your lack of concern over religious freedom a bit better now.
It’s hypothetical…
It’s one thing when worldly-wise war-addicted vets who know what they are getting into choose to go fight in Other People’s Wars as mercenaries. They know what they are getting into. It’s another when idealistic young men like this do.
Guys, when you go fight in Other People’s Wars as a volunteer or mercenary, you don’t have the backing and backup you had when you fought in our armed forces. Don’t do it.
Even if you bring your own kit, you may not get to keep it and if you do, might get robbed of it, even killed for it. If you don’t bring your own, you won’t be issued the best they have. Nope, you get the dregs. You may well be abandoned to die in some pocket surrounded by the enemy with no one coming to your aid and comms that either don’t work or nobody bothers to answer. No heroic American medics swooping in to rescue you if you get wounded, no American MASH, no flight to Ramstein if you got hit bad. Mama might never get your body back, and if she does, it will likely be rotted away by then. And, no the Other People you fought for won’t help Mama with funeral expenses. Just don’t do it.
Same to idealistic young people who want to go “help” as civilians as part of some dodgy make-up-your-own NGO. If you can’t get hired by a proper established large NGO (and you likely can’t — they have high standards and only send those experienced in the field into such places), you may well end up in big bad trouble or dead. No one there to help you or even scrape up your body. Don’t do it.
Very sad for his family. How heartbreaking.

LOL, I'm not the weirdo imagining lipstick on some guy.
Ukrainian troops fought as allies in Iraq.
This guy was part of a legion of foreign volunteers (similar to the infamous Lincoln Brigade) who might very well have their own logistics and support cadre.
I’m sure this kid will be canonized and martyred in, ‘The People’s Republic of Madistan,’ Wisconsin’s Hotbed of Commies.
RIP, Dumb@ss.
Yes the lipstick and maybe even cheek rouge is a bit odd.
It’s still not the same as fighting for Uncle Sam, not by a long shot, and the things I listed can still happen to you. And he did end up dead, and who knows if and when his family will get his remains back?
Thank you. So very, very true..
I don’t think it’s lipstick. Lots of fresh-faced boyish young men get red lips in the cold, accentuated when they prudently use chapstick. As for rouge, look at the picture. See all the snow? It gets freaking cold there, and that will turn cheeks red.
Perhaps this young man did a foolish thing, but no need to mock him like this.
Ditto. Nothing I might say would be favorable.

“He had the courage of his convictions. RIP”
Sad for his family. But he likely was brainwashed by the media, like most Americans, and by the time he learned the truth out there (that ‘international fighters’ are cannon fodder for Zelensky) it was too late, as he likely has Azovs standing behind him.
“He’s one of the youngest Vets I’ve seen. Is Biden sending U.S. soldiers to Ukraine using some sort of technicality like discharging them first?”
Yea, it’s a program they have which is to have the soldiers ‘retire’, go fight abroad, and then be ‘re-hired’. For obvious reasons, it’s kept very quiet - at least based on what I’ve been told.
“From what I read yesterday, it may be months before they can get his remains home.”
If ever. From what I’ve read, Zelensky won’t accept temporary, local, cease fires to pick up the dead. The theory behind that is that if they do pick up bodies, they then have to acknowledge the associated death of the person...which makes the KIA number look worse.
