Asteroid hits Earth just hours after discovery

While the U.S. was busy celebrating the Super Bowl on Sunday night, Europeans had their own spectacle. Early Monday morning, a bright flash streaked across the skies over Western Europe as an asteroid discovered just hours earlier made its impact with Earth's atmosphere.

The asteroid, dubbed Sar2667, was first detected on the evening of Feb. 12 by astronomer Krisztián Sárneczky in Hungary. He told Space.com that he found the asteroid during a routine near-Earth object hunt using a 2-foot telescope.

"It was immediately obvious that it was an NEO, but it wasn't particularly fast across the sky," he said, "as it was heading right towards us, and it was faint."

I thought the same thing.

Then quickly thought ‘so be it’. It is crap.

What’s a “superbowl”?

They were also all badly superannuated by 2005. By 2000, actually.

NFL is trying to appeal to non football fans. Non football fans want to watch the “game” just for the commercials and halftime “performers”.
The game itself should be relabeled to “pass, catch, and penalties”.Only thing good about the game is that so many are watching it and I can get more outdoor activities done with less traffic.

“2005-2010 had a good string of classic bands”

The 2005-2010 string of halftime shows was in response to the 2004 Jackson/Timberlake “see the boobie” halftime finish which definitely was NOT an accidental wardrobe malfunction.
The NFL decided to go with some safer acts for a few years.
The way society is falling apart I expect to hear about a halftime drag show in the very near future.

I think it was 1989, and I was stargazing with some fellow amateur astronomers at a local forest preserve. We saw something very similar to the first clip in the Twitter video, and it left a smoke trail in the sky for about 20 minutes afterward.
That was the high point of the night.

On come on now. Wouldn’t you just hate to learn that THIS is the afterlife?

Or, the afterdeath.

I’ve seen three fireballs in my life, all while driving. The only one that I heard about on the news was driving east on I-64 between Richmond and Norfolk after midnight when I saw one traveling south to north that was reported from the Carolinas to New York. Another one, a few years ago was bright, coming from the south while on I-495 in Littleton, Massachusetts. I saw a light in the twilight sky, that kept approaching directly towards me, then appeared to turn east towards Boston over Route 2 (which is how commercial aircraft approach runway 9 at Logan) but it flared up and disappeared. Definitely a meteor. The last was a relatively bright flash that appeared to traveling east to west over the ocean off Boston while driving on 128 (aka I-95) about ten years ago.

That is so cool that you got to see the fireballs. Most people will never see one.

Neat-o!
Two more than I’ve seen!
The three things I remember the most are the long lasting trail, the greenish flames rolling off of it, and it traveled from East to West, for about 7 seconds.
