While the U.S. was busy celebrating the Super Bowl on Sunday night, Europeans had their own spectacle. Early Monday morning, a bright flash streaked across the skies over Western Europe as an asteroid discovered just hours earlier made its impact with Earth's atmosphere.
The asteroid, dubbed Sar2667, was first detected on the evening of Feb. 12 by astronomer Krisztián Sárneczky in Hungary. He told Space.com that he found the asteroid during a routine near-Earth object hunt using a 2-foot telescope.
"It was immediately obvious that it was an NEO, but it wasn't particularly fast across the sky," he said, "as it was heading right towards us, and it was faint."

I searched and did not see this posted elsewhere. This article answers the question, "Are any asteroids discovered before they hit the earth?" Enjoy.

An asteroid can be described as anything bigger than a pebble. Most meteors are no bigger than a grain of sand. Most of them are dust sized which you can see on a clear night.

A sign that 99.8% of the world’s population indeed preferred fiery destruction over the Chiefs or the Iggles winning the Super Bowl.

I worked with a woman at Lincoln Labs who had managed the
LINEAR program. She had an asteroid named after her. She was the only person I ever met or knew who had an asteroid named after them.

While the U.S. was busy celebrating the Super Bowl on Sunday night, Europeans had their own spectacle. Oh yeah? Well anybody who watched the Super Bowl witnessed a giant hemorrhoid blaze across their screens at halftime.

I switched over to Murder She Wrote during halftime. I haven't seen a decent (in both senses of the word) halftime show in decades.

How soon before they try to tell us it’s because of climate change?

In the beginning they had the university bands play during half time and slowly they began getting big name entertainers popular (or well known) at the time. I suspect the older we get the less in touch with “popular” music we become.

This was the third consecutive SB I’ve missed after seeing every one that preceded it. In all that time I can honestly say that I NEVER watched a halftime SB show...not a one.

You misplaced your quotes. Should have been popular “music.” There’s no musicality to it.

Nice. Now if she could download her neural synaptic pathways into that asteroid she might achieve a truer form of immortality. I guess that will do for now, however.

I, for one, am still in touch with “good taste”.

As I watched the SB halftime show, I commented to my spouse “that’s just a bunch of noise!”
And quickly realized those were my dad’s exact words when describing the music I was listening to in the ‘60’s.

2005-2010 had a good string of classic bands:
Paul McCartney
Rolling Stones
Prince
Tom Petty
Springsteen
The Who
I know some people here do not like their politics, but these were all Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame acts
