Three people were found dead from gunshot wounds inside a $2 million home in Andover, Massachusetts, early Thursday, as authorities continue to disclose more details.

The Andover Police Department received a 911 call around 3 a.m. Officers responded to the address at 48 Porter Road, where three people were found deceased and suffering from gunshot wounds, Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tucker told reporters at the scene. The three victims were a 56-year-old father, a 55-year-old mother and their 12-year-old son, Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe added. Police said the 911 call came from inside the home and officers had to breach two doors to get inside.

"I want to make sure that the people also know that right now there is no danger to anyone in the public," Tucker said. "We believe this is a scene that’s contained at 48 Porter Road."

I wouldn’t mind, but exactly, you have to have the wealth to maintain it all.

In any case, this makes me sad thinking of that poor boy.

(At least, I doubt it was the boy, who is probably on the early side of 12, to boot.)

I watch murder shows a lot.

Almost always, be wary of the one who calls 911.

Sometimes I think that’s why they set up 911. Because the murderer thinks he’s brilliant covering his tracks by alerting.

Your right.
I’ve been binge watching old Dateline episodes, and 9 out of 10 times it’s the Spouse who commits the crime and calls 911.

"Which came first, the death or the suffering? Once they were dead, they were no longer suffering from the gunshots...I might be a bit too picky, but, I like seeing things logically and people should write that way."

"Suffer" can be used as a transitive or intransitive verb. One definition for "suffer" which is older, fading away, but not yet extinct is, "to undergo or experience," and I think that's the way it was intended here. IOW, "...three people were found dead, having experienced/sustained (i.e. "suffering") gunshot wounds.

Just my $0.02. That's the way I read it. It does sound awkward, but IMHO, not because it's incorrect, but a somewhat older, more formal usage.

Nice try, but, you're interpreting what you think the writer "meant to say", but, that's not what the writer wrote. IOW, the writer should know better and not hope that what he/she wrote sounds correct to some people.

Nope. I simply have a big enough vocabulary to understand that the word in question has multiple legitimate accepted uses and definitions, and to a person who is aware of them, the writer's intended use is clear in the context in which it was used, i.e., "to suffer a fool," like I'm doing now.

You keep talking about the writer’s intent of use of the word, but, intent is not enough to allow the writer to get away with the incorrect use of the word within the context of the sentence.

So, is it about what ‘the meaning of is, is?’, or is it about making sure you’re understood completely in the beginning, without having to decipher what was meant?

Nope! You’re wrong again!

I’m not an editor, nor a literary writer, but, I know a stupidly written sentence when I read it. Stop making excuses for the dumb writer.
