Want to Avoid the ICU for COVID? Just Take This One Little Pill (Vitamin D)
PJ Media ^ | 2/3/2023 | Stephen Green

A new study published last month by the National Institutes for Health suggests “a protective role” for a tiny yellow pill that costs almost nothing.

Study is at: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9864223/

Before we go on, understand that I’m one of those crazy million-supplements-a-day people. We’ll get to that in a second, but first, let’s look at the science behind vitamin D and COVID.

You can buy a year’s worth of vitamin D supplements for about $12 on Amazon. January’s NIH meta-analysis shows that taking it “results in a decreased risk of death and ICU admission.”

It would be fair to note that a lot of people (including Yours Truly and actual doctors and scientists) have touted the benefits of vitamin D for a long time. But this is the first time I’m aware of that the NIH has published a study of this size regarding COVID and vitamin D’s “beneficial effect in preventing acute respiratory infections and reducing their complications.”

“Regarding ICU admission,” the study continues, “Figure 2 shows a strong association between vitamin D interventions and protective effect on ICU admission.”

In addition, “Figure 3 shows a significant protective effect of vitamin D administration on mortality.”

It isn’t just COVID, either. “Various studies conducted before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic showed that patients who received vitamin D supplements had a lower risk of acute respiratory infections and a shorter duration of symptoms.”

The study also shows that the benefits of taking Vitamin D accrue most for those who are vitamin D-deficient, which almost goes without saying. And yet, a 2022 NIH report concluded that “35% of adults in the United States are vitamin D deficient.”

Yep, I finally got COVID this week. Sore throat first day, second day fatigue. Third day woke with fever - 101 - body aches and chills. Took Advil, symptoms subsided. Day 4, joints ached but no fever and didn’t take Advil. Day 5??? Woke up feeling great.

I decided 2 years ago I was over COVID and never looked back as I moved back into a normal routine. Been taking that stack - not his but all separate - along with a few other items for a year. My China flu wasn’t even a bad cold. Just sayin...

Some organization, I don’t know which, said the maximum safe dose is 100 micrograms per day.

If you have more vitamin d than is possible for a human being to have from being in the sun, I think you have excess vitamin d. With half the dose you mention, you would have a lot more than that.

You appear to be correct:

Recommendations for how much daily vitamin D adults need through diet have changed over the years. Currently, different recommendations exist. The Institute of Medicine has placed the recommended dietary allowance, or RDA, for vitamin D at 600 international units (IU) per day for young adults and 800 IU per day for adults older than 70. Other experts suggest that adults’ vitamin D needs are much higher. For example, the Endocrine Society recommends up to 1,500 to 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily for adults.

Mayo Clinic recommends that adults get at least the RDA of 600 IU. However, 1,000 to 2,000 IU per day of vitamin D from a supplement is generally safe, should help people achieve an adequate blood level of vitamin D, and may have additional health benefits. While there are no guidelines for checking your vitamin D blood level, it may be prudent in people with osteoporosis or certain other health conditions. Discuss with your health care provider if it may be beneficial to check your vitamin D level.

I’ve never taken a clot shot, I have taken vitamin D since the beginning of the scamdemic, and have never had any covid symptoms, even after being near someone that had full blown covid and wore no mask.

Early on my eye doctor recommended vitamin D as well as early online reports regarding covid.

Vitamin D is cheap and has no side effects.

As soon as the FDA and the CDC find some OTC meds that work, they’ll ban them.

In northern latitudes the Sun is often too low in the sky to get any vit D during Fall-Winter.

And generally the Sun needs to be at least 50 degrees high to get any. (The lower the Sun from your perspective, the more atmosphere there is between you and the Sun)

Some small studies show that Sun exposure provides more benefit that just producing Vit D, so it is better than taking the supplements, but for much of the year many have no choice but to take supplements if they want to keep their D levels high.

It is well established that Vit D is important to a strong immune system, among other things.

It was observed early in the pandemic that most getting seriously ill from Covid were Vit D deficient. That same can probable be said for many infectious diseases.

Weird that the CDC (or most Western health agencies) never promoted Vit D for Covid prevention. Similarly they didn’t promote other low-cost healthy lifestyle choices (weight-loss and exerciser) that also significantly reduce the risk/harm from Covid.

Funny thing about that, my doctor told me to take D3 pills years ago, in addition to my regular vitamin regimen.

I haven't been sick at all since this falderal started three years ago.   But, I will admit that I am an odd bird, as I take 21 vitamin, mineral and supposed nostrum pills of various types and descriptions.   That's in addition to my prescribed medications.

One thing I have been taking for decades is lecithin which is an emulsifier and could prevent or destroy blood clots, or reduce the effect of plaque formation.

Soy Lecithin Benefits

So there are some potential negatives, but on the other side, there is a lot of research showing that soy lecithin can be used as a healing agent.

Referred to as a fat that is “essential” to the cells in our bodies, lecithin is used both as a standalone medicine and also as a common additive in many medicines today. In spite of the side effects discussed above, lecithin has been used for years to treat a number of diseases including:

The lecithin supplements are used for decreasing hyperlipidemia and increasing lipid metabolism

The journal Cholesterol published a study in 2010 that evaluated total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol after patients had been given soy lecithin after having been diagnosed with hypercholesterolemia levels. Thirty volunteers were given one 500 mg soy lecithin supplement each day and the results were shocking.

What is soy lecithin and what does it do? Soy lecithin supplements have significantly increased immunity functions in diabetics in addition to normalizing cholesterol levels. Brazilian researchers also found that daily soy lecithin caused macrophage activity, which is white blood cells engulfing foreign debris in diabetic rats. They also discovered that lymphocyte numbers skyrocketed to 92 percent in non-diabetic rats.

Phosphatidylserine, a common phospholipid that makes up part of the cell membranes in both plants and animals, is also one of the keys to lecithin’s health benefits.

It has also been known to have a positive effect on the stress hormones adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol, and phosphatidylserine, derived from cow brains, has been shown to dampen the response to physical stress.

German researchers studied soy lecithin phosphatidic acid and phosphatidylserine complex (PAS) supplementation to see what effect on it has on ACTH.

Published in the Danish journal Stress, 20 people were given dosages of 400 mg, 600 mg and 800 mg of PAS. They discovered the PAS had remarkable effects on the human psyche, and they found that the level of dosage also had a major impact. They discovered that the 400 mg dose was a lot more effective at blunting serum ACTH and cortisol levels than the larger doses.

Soy Lecithin Nutritional Facts

One cup of soy lecithin, extracted from soybean oil, has this nutritional content:

Keep in mind that it is very unlikely anyone would ever take in this amount of lecithin, so the numbers may not be what you would expect. Even so, the organic variety is a good source of choline, which has many health benefits.

“One of the newest nutrients to be added to the list of human vitamins,” according to the George Mateljan Foundation, choline plays a key role in methylation, and this can actually affect every cell in the body. Methylation is vital in that it maintains human life and involves the transfer of a methyl group (1 carbon and 3 hydrogen atoms) to amino acids, enzymes, and DNA. Methylation is so crucial for our health that inadequate activity has been linked to:

Several years ago my regular physician had taken an anomalous EKG and told me to see a cardiologist.   The cardiologist gave me treadmill stress test which I passed with flying colors and had no symptoms of a heart problem.   He told me that without symptoms and passing a stress test I was not operable.

My physician was not satisfied and talked me into getting an echocardiogram which showed that I had severe plaque in my heart   I went back to the cardiologist and he seemed very annoyed and told me to come back if I ever had a symptom.

I then asked the cardiologist about my taking lecithin capsules for decades, and in spite of heart disease in every male in my extended family, including my there brothers and my father, did he think that might have been why I have dodged the bullet regarding heart disease?   My cardiologist said, "yes, that could have minimized the effect of plaque in my heart."   LOL My cardiologist basically told me to stop wasting his time and come back when I really needed him, "so I got that goin for me, which is nice."

For important vitamins I generally buy three brands of each and rotate taking them daily... that way if one brand is deficient I still get the benefit of the other two.
