Single women own and occupy more homes than single men in the United States, despite earning only about 83 cents for every dollar that men earn, according to a new study.
The report, by the online lending marketplace LendingTree, analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau 2021 American Community Survey with one-year estimates. It found that 10.76 million U.S. homes were owned and occupied by single women, while 8.12 million were owned and occupied by single men. Single men were found to own and occupy a larger percentage of homes in only two states: North Dakota (about 13 percent, to 11 percent for single women) and South Dakota (12 percent to 11 percent).

It's a rare divorced man that still owns his home.
And a bargain at twice that price!
And that's just the shoes...
Yeah, this is an artifact of the way courts handle divorces. The man usually gets shafted.
My wife and I are in our 80’s, married 60+ years and living in the same home since 1970.
We might downsize if not for prop 13.
Apparently, the revised Prop 13 would allow us to keep our lower property taxes even with a smaller/less expensive home than now.
We still like our home and neighbors. We have good crews, who help to keep it in good shape.
My wife came up with the term, “We will leave our current home feet first!”
More neighbors in our age bracket are making the same decision:”We will leave our current home feet first!”
I was divorced for 20 years. No alimony, no child support. I owned my own homes meaning I bought and sold a few times plus a weekend cabin in the mountains for a number of years all the while starting a business from scratch and maintaining it for 19 years. The only time I was broke was when I had a guy hanging like an albatross around my neck. Its a miracle I didn’t have to pay him alimony.
Fortunately I met Mr. GG2 who is not an albatross and things have been great ever since.
These threads never fail to turn into the butt hurt breakfast club of guys who chose poorly. 😆
Right?
Occam’s Razor: Cat ladies find it hard to rent apartments.
Why would a bull need a barn if the heifers already have one?

Absolutely HILARIOUS!

Okay, but single men own more boats. So there’s that.
I am happy to say that I bought my own house, myself, with never a penny of alimony or support from any man, anywhere.
Or boats.
Same here. Divorced in 1997, no alimony, heck, I gave him the choice of furniture when he moved out. I said, "Take what you like, leave what you don't like." He got all the antiques and electronics, and I got cats and throw pillows. And I was fine with it.
I finished school and started teaching in 2004. I paid off my student loan in 2017. I bought my house in 2020. And no man was injured in the process.
“We will leave our current home feet first!”
That is our plan as well—the grass does not look greener anywhere else—and we looked very hard—and carefully—over the years.
I own quite a few. No mortgages! Started investing in real estate at age 18. Could probably retire at 30, but it’s fun and I’ve removed a lot of eyesores from the landscape around here. :)
