With Jacinda Ardern's welcome exit from the ranks of world political leaders, leaving a shambles of constitutional freedom and human rights in her wake, now is perhaps an opportune time to reconsider the passage of the 19th amendment in American politics as part of our ongoing series of "To Save America" modest proposals advocating repeal of the most destructive tamperings with the original Constitution. We've already made the arguments for the repeal of the 16th, 17th, 18th (done!), and 26th amendments, so now it's time for the women's suffrage movement to take its turn in the barrel.
Oops.
Start with this: there is no intrinsic, enumerated right to vote in the Constitution; eligibility was left up to each state. Voting therefore is neither a civil right nor a God-given natural right (as history clearly shows), but an earned privilege to be granted under certain circumstances or after an individual had satisfied various specified criteria such as attaining the age of his majority, being a male, a property owner, etc.
This was an outgrowth of the original conception of the United States as a voluntary alliance of hitherto sovereign states, each of which ceded some portion of its autonomy to the new federal government, but which reserved all other rights to itself. Indeed, the Tenth amendment makes this explicit: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." In other words, the federal government did not create the states, they created the federal government.

without women there would be no FR....
and yet we have the incel brigade who jump on every single chance to belittle women....
okay...no female vote...then only youse guys who don't use viagra can vote....we only want real men voting right....if your thing don't work, then you're not all man, so no vote..../s/
And those in the militia. The Colonials had their own skin in the game and were willing to risk their lives fighting the British.
What? You think women are not affected by the decisions others make for them?
Of course women have skin in the game. They are not second class citizens or slaves, which is exactly how some men treat them.
Does it not occur to these men that what they are advocating is exactly what fueled the feminist movement in the first place?
“It’s still a good idea.”
Yeah, but I’m tired of good ideas that will never happen. I’ll take a mediocre idea that might actually work over one of those in a heartbeat.
It will have to wait until after the war ... unfortunately ...

Agreed!
This woman agrees.
I have far less problem with the right to vote being tied to taxpaying citizens and property owners than to welfare recipients on the government dole.
There is far too much a conflict of interest when one is receiving a government hand out.
Also, what would help is election reform and clearing out voter rolls. Remove the name of the deceased and those who have moved. Vote in person on election day presenting ID.
For those in hospitals and nursing homes, set up voting places so they can also vote in person instead of having someone “help” them fill out their ballot.
Vote fraud is a HUGE contributor to where we are politically. Deal with that instead of denying a whole demographic the right to vote based on the voting patterns of some in it.
And I would defy any man to vote more conservative than I do.
Go lower, start with the 13th. We have to do something with all these wetbacks. /s
They vote on one issue...like abortion....never mind that their food bill is double and they have to cut down their driving cuz gas is so expensive.
Yeah, I’m with you. All those people should be banned from voting and only property owning men allowed to vote.
Do you plan to place a Repeal the 19th in the 2024 GOP Platform?
Who will be the first 2024 Republican presidential candidate to say during a debate, “If elected, I will work day and night to repeal the 19th Amendment?”
Repeal the 17th Amendment First, put the balance back in our Republic.
Do you plan to place a Repeal the 19th in the 2024 GOP Platform?
I'm not a delegate. So, no. On top of that, this is kind of the same as the socialism problem. History has shown that a people can vote themselves into socialism, but they then have to shoot their way out.
I own property too.
Ok, then which Republican senator do you expect to file a bill to Repeal the 19th Amendment?
Or maybe you have a congressman in mind who will file legislation to repeal the 19th Amendment.
Tell me the state legislatures that will vote to repeal the 19th?
OMG another poor men article and awful woman article....
No, that's no where in Mr. Walsh' piece linked here. He's simply pointing out that past republics, in particular those of the ancients from whom the founders drew much inspiration understood that extending the franchise to women was a recipe for disaster. As he puts it "They (women) were too emotional, too devious in their machinations, and certainly too weak to fight..." It's hard to argue with that the extension of voting to women has been an abject failure, wherever it has been tried.
That's not to say that other bad ideas haven't been implemented in the years since the founding, they certainly have. The author is simply making the case that this particular bad idea has had terrible consequences.
Simpe observation proves this to be true, and should be kept in mind when rebuilding after the inevitable collapse.
Plenty of ways to accomplish this without making it about sex. Poll taxes, property ownership, no one on public assistance, etc.
Every solution to today’s problem winds up creating tomorrow’s problem.
Serious question. Eventually women will vote for a despot. So we’ll lose all our rights under the Constitution. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted. Our Golden Age has ended.
You’re thinking too small.
It took years for the suffrage movement to implement the disastrous extension of the franchise to women. It will take years to reverse it.
But even the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
True words lost on most people.
And from this basic truth comes another basic truth. The states can dissolve the Federal Government.
