David Crosby, the singer, songwriter and guitarist and member of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, has died.
His wife, Jan Dance, told Variety Thursday, "It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us."
She continues, "His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly. At this time, we respectfully and kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and try to deal with our profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers.”
Born in Los Angeles, David founded the band The Byrds in 1964, finding their first number one hit ... only a year later thanks to a cover of Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man."
It was in 1968 when Crosby formed Crosby, Stills & Nash with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash. The group won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1969.
Over the years, members of the group were able to collab with other artists freely -- and did so with the likes of Neil Young at Woodstock.
Crosby was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as both a member of The Byrds and for his efforts with Crosby, Stills and Nash.
My second favorite CS&N song, written by Crosby and lead vocal by him.
Deja Vu

No great loss.

Well, I can honestly say, “I was older then, but I’m younger than that now.”
Solid voice but not magic. CSN combined DID made a magical, unique tone.
Here are the songs Crosby wrote:

And he was a jerk.
Actually, the best CSN tunes were written by Stills and Nash. Crosby was a distant 3rd. Still, RIP
Yeah, the politics are obviously Dylan. Not communist at all.
The live version of “Lee Shore” transports me to the Caribbean.
Jim Morrison’s father was no less than Admiral of the Fleet at the Gulf of Tonkin incident.
“Suite Judy Blue Eyes.”
That was written by Stephen Stills about his girlfriend, Judy Collins.
To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven
A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together
To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven...
I mean...For What It’s Worth, Mr. Tambourine Man, Suite:Judy Blue Eyes, Turn Turn Turn, Wooden Ships, Southern Cross, Woodstock...on and on.
I don’t care about his politics, I loved the music he wrote and played. He was a talented fellow and I wish him Gospeed...
>> Regarding Crosby’s attire: Was that a Sears Pancho or a real Pancho?”
Thanks. This thread needed a Zappa reference.
Great music in the mid 60s early 70s
He was a royal ass. Beligerant. Petty.
Buy boy that guy could sing. His harmonies with Graham Nash, also an ass, were things of pop legend.
It is with a deep and profound sadness that I learned that my friend David Crosby has passed. I know people tend to focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times, but what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered with one another, and the deep friendship we shared over all these many long years. David was fearless in life and in music. He leaves behind a tremendous void as far as sheer personality and talent in this world. He spoke his mind, his heart, and his passion through his beautiful music and leaves an incredible legacy. These are the things that matter most. My heart is truly with his wife, Jan, his son, Django, and all of the people he has touched in this world.
Obviously I disagree with Crosby about many things but... Hard to say it better than that.
He didn’t have a title for it but he handed it to his producer and said, “here’s a song for what it’s worth.” The rest is R&R history.
