Cowboys Sign Tristan Vizcaino After Brett Maher Blows Four Straight PATs During Playoff Game

The Dallas Cowboys added kicker Tristan Vizcaino to their practice squad Wednesday following Brett Maher’s horrible kicking performance Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tristan Vizcaino

Maher shockingly missed four straight extra point attempts during the Cowboys’ playoff win against Tampa Bay before connecting on his fifth try.

The Cowboys still intend to use Maher as their starting kicker for their playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but have added Vizcaino to their practice squad as “insurance” just incase Maher continues to struggle making kicks throughout the week of practice, according to NFL reporter Todd Archer.

I believe Maher’s disappointing performance on Monday was a fluke job. He’s typically an accurate kicker so I don’t expect his kicking woes to continue. Maher made 29 of his 32 field-goal attempts during the regular season and made 50 of his 53 point after attempts, according to Pro Football Reference.

“J Lo has gotten more rings since 1994, than the Dallas Cowboys.”

Yea, it would be rough being the snapper and holder as well. Your mistakes are quite obvious.

Scott Norwood missed that kick legitimately. He was never a great kicker at long range, and was particularly poor at that range when kicking on grass.

As a NYG fan watching that game, I had no doubt he was going to miss it.

Snappers and holders are some of the most under-appreciated players on an NFL team.

There's a reason why most teams use a backup QB as a holder and a specialist for long snaps instead of the starting center. These players are rarely on the field, and so they have plenty of time to work together in practice and on the sideline during a game.

"Cowboys Sign Tristan Vizcaino After Brett Maher Blows Four Straight PATs..."

A question...there are 4 Pats on the team?

One more question...can the 4 Pats still be considered straight?

In all my many years watching pro football I never saw 4 missed in a row like that. Rarely saw 2.

Peter Boyle as the monster was great. Didn’t realize it was him until years later.

The Left has no sense of humor, so these types of funny movies will never be made again.

When he missed the fourth PAT, I told my husband that they should watch him carefully after the game for a suicide attempt. This makes that even more plausible.

A friend of mine’s son was a deep snapper at Baylor and Detroit. Not sure how many years he was around the NFL.

That’s considered a good job I think.

To be fair, the ball was placed on the 2 yard line for PATs for years. Now it’s placed on the 15, which makes it about the equivalent of a 33-yard field goal.

A friend of mine worked with the wife of a guy who was an NFL long snapper. The dude hung a tire from a tree in the back yard and would spend hours every day during the offseason snapping footballs back through it.

It's a harder job than it may seem to a layperson. It's not easy to snap the ball 8 or 15 yards back through your legs and have it reach the holder or punter's hands with the laces up every time you do it.

If she was on the field, there would be a ‘roughing the kicker’ every time she kicked the ball.
