The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were eliminated from the postseason Monday night after being crushed by the Dallas Cowboys, 31-14.
The win sends the Cowboys to San Francisco to play against the 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs.
The Cowboys’ win was huge but the bigger story to come from this game seems to be centered around Tom Brady. The 45-year-old may have played in the final game of his legendary football career.
When the seven-time Super Bowl champion jogged off the field, he tipped his cap to the crowd as to say “thank you.” He then stopped by his parents to give them both a kiss.
In the post-game press conference, Brady thanked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization and their fans for making him feel welcomed and respected when he joined them. He also expressed his appreciation to the members of the press for the work they do covering the sport.
The way I see it, Brady was motioning final goodbyes to the Tampa Bay fans, their media members and perhaps to the game of football for the last time.
Considering his NFL resume, I don’t see any reason for him to return for a 24th season. According to NBC Sports, Brady is already the holder of multiple NFL records.
To name a few, Brady is the NFL’s leader in:
Quarterback wins (251)
Passing touchdowns (649)
Passing yards (89,214)
Completions (7,753)
Division titles (19)
Pro Bowl selections (15)
Super Bowl victories (7)
Super Bowl MVP’s (5)
Super Bowl appearances (10)
I believe Brady is undoubtedly the greatest quarterback of all time. His accolades speak for themselves. If he were to step away from the game, he would, of course, be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
With nothing else left to prove, I believe Brady’s next logical move would be to join the Fox Sports broadcast team. Last May, Brady agreed to a 10-year contract worth over $375 million with Fox to become their lead NFL analyst. For the kind of money he’ll get in broadcasting and after accomplishing all there is to accomplish as an NFL player, I think he’ll finally ride off into the sunset.
If I were to bet, I would say that his playing career is over and that he’s going to Fox. That said, no one knows what’s next except for him. Time will tell for #12.
Mahr’s good on turf but on grass he has trouble.
Couldn’t buy a field goal when Dallas played the Bucs in Tampa at the season opener.
Well he’s going to be on grass against the Niners.
Cosell could be quite the sanctimonious liberal sometimes.
So good a father he left his pregnant girlfriend to date and then marry Giselle.
They both deserve each other.
I think the Dolphins have something in Skylar Thompson. He played pretty well against the Bills.
No one knows the personal story of his marriage except he and his wife. No one, not either mother, has ever implied that he wasn't an attentive father. If he's is playing "badly," as you put it, that's only because of the standard set by --- him.
Could very well have been the “retirement” that ended the marriage, because they suddenly were together more, and realized then it probably wasn’t going to work out.
“He always said he’d “play until I sucked.””
You must not have watched the game. Brady has had no help these whole two years. If he had not been on the team, they never would not have won a single game.
Troy Aikman pointed out that Tampa had no one who could run the ball. That just means the coach is stupid.
But he is black, so he can’t be fired.
Aikman said he hoped Brady would continue to play after this season. I hope he leaves Tampa, because if he were to stay there, he would get the same result.
“absence makes the heart grow fonder”
Yep, he sucked. If had any brains he would try to try to figure out who Tom Brady, the man, will be after he is Tom Brady the quarterback.
Everyone can have a bad night. Prior to the game, he had missed 3 PAT the whole season.
He paid nothing per share. He was paid in shares for endorsing them. Look at the endorsement as being worth what the shares were worth. It does decrease the value of his future endorsements, however.
I never understood the value of endorsements. Did anyone eat Cambells Chucky Soup because a couple of quarterbacks endorsed them.
I know.
At least it’s not in the old Candlestick Park where the sod was notoriously damp.
Have nightmares going there to play conference championships there.
Have to enjoy this victory while it lasts. Maybe the last one til next season.
Depending wether Dog Dak/Bad Dak shows up.
But the man is no saint. He's human. I'm sure he loves his kids, but the amount of time he needed to dedicate to his craft over the last two decades meant he missed a lot of time with his wife and kids. And that's completely fine. But to think that he wouldn't date a smokin hot younger woman just because of his fatherly duties is silly, IMHO.
San Fran will demolish the Cowboys.
In a perfect world Brady would sign a one-day contract with the Patriots and retire a Patriot.
They had Fournetette who helped run up over 140 yards on the ground when they played the season opener
What they didn’t have was a solid offensive line that killed Brady’s pass game.
Other players have done the same...................
He still almost took the Bucs to the Super Bowl last year.
Cowboys defense put pressure on Brady all night.
