When we were little, our parents told us to take our vitamins so we could grow big and strong. Now, researchers find that one particular supplement may even fix a broken heart.
Researchers have revealed that a dietary supplement can dramatically reverse the signs of heart disease in a subset of patients.
Coronary artery disease (CAD), which involves narrowing or even closing of the arteries of the heart and often leads to heart attack. Despite the existence of treatments such as cholesterol-lowering drugs and drug-eluting stents death from this condition is still common, and some patients appear to be resistant to treatment.
"Almost 15 years ago we identified a new type of CAD called triglyceride deposit cardiomyovasculopathy (TGCV), in which the coronary arteries are occluded by triglyceride deposits generated by defective intracellular breakdown of triglycerides in vascular smooth muscle cells," says lead author of the study Ken-ichi Hirano. "This mechanism makes TGCV distinct from classic cholesterol-induced atherosclerosis, and accounts for patients who are resistant to standard remedies for CAD."
The researchers had developed diagnostic criteria for TGCV, and shown that this condition is especially prevalent in patients with diabetes mellitus and those who have undergone hemodialysis. Despite the ability to diagnose this condition, an effective treatment for these patients remained elusive.
"Now we report a remarkable regression of diffuse coronary atherosclerosis in two patients with TGCV," states Ken-ichi Hirano. "Both had suffered from refractory chest pain and diabetes until diagnosis with TGCV, and subsequent dietary intake of tricaprin led to symptom relief."
Tricaprin is a commercially available food supplement that promotes lipid breakdown by heart muscle cells. In addition to relieving these patients' troublesome and painful symptoms, tricaprin also resulted in remarkable regression of the triglyceride build-up in the blood vessels of the heart.

It is available, but in my brief research, only as laboratory examples with a high price.
However, one reference makes it sound like this precursor form is also available as a small component of MCT oil (that is not the strict capric acid form).
It would appear this is commonly available in Japan, though.
My friend orders supplements from overseas, I’ll have to ask him.
So it’s not in the c8 form of mct?
Or you could just take 1000-2000mg of Fish Oil (especially EPA) daily. I dropped my tryglicerides from 240 to under 140 in less than 3 months using this inexpensive OTC suppliment.
I do not indulge in any special supplements. I only eat real and natural foods. My special supplement is regular exercise. I am finding out exercise is the most powerful way to stay healthy in 80’s.
TGCV wouldn’t be addressed by that.
I never heard of tricaprin before, but it seems very worth it to examine.
In the meantime, having plenty of Vitamin K2 and Vitamin D will keep calcium out of your arteries, having plenty of anti-oxidants will keep LDLs from oxidizing as much, and having plenty of Omega-9 oils (from EVOO and avocados) will promote overall good heart health - those things, and at least some degree of moderate exercise, getting a reasonable amount of sleep and not smoking or drinking to excess. This isn’t rocket science.
“A triglyceride containing C-10 fatty acids, tricaprin, is found in
milkfat, palm kernel oil, and coconut oil. Tricaprin is one of the
medium-chain (containing fatty acids of 8 to 12 carbons) triglycerides (MCT). When consumed, the MCT are not adsorbed by the
lymphatic system as are other fats but instead are transported
directly to the liver (Bach and Babayan 1982). Thus, tricaprin is
metabolized more like carbohydrates than like fats. Ranhotra et al
(1994) reported that tricaprin gave an average energy value of 6.9
callg compared to 9.0 for conventional fats. Other studies report
that tricaprin is incorporated less effectively into body fat than are
longer chain fats”

Interesting, but not readily available in the USA.
Great comment. I have taken a handful of supplements daily since I was 26 and am in almost perfect health at 86. My most recent MD appointment was devoted to laughing about various things including my horrible cat. My doc and his nurse are non-vaxers and of course I am too.
I was exercising almost every day at the gym, had great muscular strength, bp, etc. but then the idiot governor closed the gyms.
I weigh 113, still have bp like a teenager but I don’t feel well at all since I got out of the exercise mode. Wish I had that wonderful beach for morning walks (snow here). BTW, love your dog. We had one in the family years ago named Mona Lisa Lhasa.
Thanks.
BKMK
I use the community gym for use only but home owners of sub-division. Florida never closed anything. This is a great state if you don’t mind gators, snakes and ants lol. And ourlhasa dog was a gem. She lived to almost 16 age. I think it was my daily brushing her teeth :)
