Feds Force West Point To Remove General Robert E. Lee Portrait

As a response to a federal order by the Department of Defense, West Point is starting to remove all Confederate statues and portraits from its campus.

West Point Superintendent Lieutenant General Steve Gilland broke the news and stated “During the holiday break, we will begin a multi-phased process, in accordance with Department of Defense directives, to remove, rename or modify assets and real property at the United States Military Academy and West Point installation that commemorate or memorialize the Confederacy or those who voluntarily served with the Confederacy”.

One of the most notable Confederate portraits that will be removed is General Robert E. Lee’s portrait.

Besides Lee’s portrait, a stone image of him along with several plaques of his likeness will also be removed.

Most people only know Robert E. Lee as the General of the Confederate Army but before choosing to side with the Confederacy he served 32 years in the US military.

Lee started off his military career by being the top graduate at West Point and made a name for himself during the Mexican-American War where at one point he even worked side by side with General Ulysses S. Grant.

After the Mexican American War, Lee was later named as the Superintendent of West Point.

In the years leading up to the Civil War, Lee condemned any states succeeding from the Union and stated they were betraying the Founding Fathers.

Advisor to President Lincoln Union Army General Winfield Scott even requested Robert E. Lee to be the new general of the Union Army.

Lee, however, would deny the opportunity and would eventually resign from the US military in order to join forces with the Confederate Army shortly after Virginia succeeded from the Union.

His reason was he didn’t want to betray his native state of Virginia.

Yes, the communists have nearly full control of the US Military. It won’t be long.

Imagine how much greater was hatred of the confederacy as we move back in time closer to the Civil War.

And yet the nation and its people were able to understand and admire Robert E. Lee rather than expunge his history.

But the new leftists and racists destroy everything. They probably hate Grant for his perceived failures after the war, than they hate Lee.

Will a new administration have the balls to bring back our history?

I don’t think that before the current radicalism, black Americans had any hatred for REL.

But we’re living in a more ignorant time.

This isn’t actually completely accurate. Lee wanted NO PART of the war. He didn’t support the Union or the Confederates. He was drawn in to the war by the Union invasion of Virginia, and the death of the Confederate commander. He ‘advised’ but would not participate prior to this. He was NOT pro-slavery and the plantation with slaves, Arlington, was owned by his wife. All this happened to people (hear interview with ‘Julius Howell’) when people rarely traveled more than a few miles from home and had no ‘concept’ of central Government.

Lee hunted down John Brown, fought in the Mexican American war, was against slavery, taught at West Point. He was trapped by destiny, another time and place, and growing up with a concept of ‘local’, not Federal. He wasn’t a villain, just a soldier. Much like the story of Nathan Bedford Forrest, the truth has been destroyed by propaganda.

Like Rommel in WWII, people just don’t understand that sometimes the currents take good soldiers to places they don’t wan’t to be.

So much for “With malice toward none, with charity for all”. We must remember that the Left exhibits malice toward all and charity for none. They are rabid swine.

It has been argued that since the Confederates took arms against the United States they should not be honored today.

Well, many Indian tribes also took arms against the United States. Shouldn’t we erase all memory of them as well? After all, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

Perhaps the DoD could start by renaming the Apache helicopter.

(/s, of course)

Top Grad, loyal to the country that was loyal to him.
Lee was a “loyal son of Virginia”.

In true Constitutional form, he joined the Army of Northern Virginia who then joined the CONFEDERATION of STATES that was opposed the Federal Government overreach, in a constitutionally supoported action.

We were “these United States” before CW and Lincoln wrecking the Constitution. Then the power grab to “The United States”.

Great portrait of a great man.

Interestingly enough, there is Rommel Barracks in today’s German Army. To be honest, I’m a bit surprised by that.

Maybe because they think Rommel was in on the plot to kill Hitler, and he was executed for it.

When the Muslims conquered Egypt, the commander sent a courier back to the Iman, asking if they should consider saving the great libraries.

The answer came back that if anything in the library was consistent with Islam, it wasn’t needed. And if it was inconsistent, it must be destroyed. So they were told to destroy everything.

That’s clearly the age we’re living in. They are destroying words, books, films, history, ideas and of course, people.

Exactly. They don’t deserve a statue of someone the likes of Robert E. Lee. But instead of pulling it down they should wrap it in a size 20 skirt and relabel it “Rachel Levine.” “She” is a perfect representation of our new masters.

Ever notice that murderer Louis Riel and the Metis rebellion in Canada is still honored with pomp and parades?

And the one hour Eureka Rebellion in Australia is also honored.

Yet the four year long rebellion in the US over legitimate grievances is now being dishonored even though it was the best trained officer core in the US fighting each other?

Truly sad times we live in.

Gee, that will have a huge effect on healing the racial tensions.

They’ll probably top the removal of his portrait and statue, by exhuming and relocating the all those 400,000 people buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Check your history if you’d like to know who owned the land that is now the cemetery.

I’ll give you a hint, he was a superintendent of West Point, that doesn’t have portrait or statute to commemorate his thirty plus years of service to our country . . .

Question is, will they replace Lee’s statue with one of George Floyd (or Hunter Biden - he was in the military - for a little while)?
