The media has been having a field day since Elon Musk’s poll asking users if he should step down as the head of Twitter, which now shows the votes favor him leaving.
But questions have arisen as to why Musk would conduct such a poll this early into his role as CEO of the platform. Clearly, it does not make sense Musk would put himself in such a vulnerable position, especially as he’s already made himself a ‘deep state’ enemy number one in the wake of the explosive Twitter files releases.
Currently, various media headlines are attempting to link the poll with Twitter’s supposed backlash over the platform’s new policies.
The New York Times headline, titled, ‘The Last Straw’: Twitter Users Rage Over Elon Musk’s Latest Actions,’ tried to suggest Musk has been forced into doing the poll because of backlash from reporters.
Meanwhile, The Daily Mail’s headline went a step further, reading, ‘Time to pack up your desk, Elon! Musk could quit as head of Twitter after more than half of 17 million users in HIS poll say they DO want him to step down.’
But despite the poll results, many comments voiced support for Musk, with some begging him not to leave.
Kim Dotcom pointed out why he thought the poll was unwise:
“Hey @elonmusk, it’s unwise to run a poll like this when you are now deep state enemy #1. They have the biggest bot army on Twitter. They have 100k ‘analysts’ with 30-40 accounts all voting against you. Let’s clean up and then run this poll again. The majority has faith in you,” he wrote.
Kim Dotcom then theorized Musk’s poll could be “a honeypot to catch all the deep state bots:”
“I’m hoping that Elon did this poll as a honeypot to catch all the deep state bots. The dataset for this poll will contain most of them. Some good data-mining and he could kill them all in one go,” he wrote.
Another Twitter user voiced the same suspicions:
“Is this a honey pot for bot makers?” Twitter user Andre_van_Delft wrote.
The Hodge twins followed up with the same ‘bot’ theory:
“This poll will def catch the bots,” they wrote.
Musk has repeatedly said his mission as the new CEO of Twitter was to get rid of bots and encourage more human engagement on the platform. With this in mind, this could be the ‘drain the swamp’ moment for bots on Twitter.

Crazy like a fox.
I was hoping it was a bot tap. I voted so they would get one more data point of an actual human.
Abdul Abdullah Abdul?...............
In my humble opinion, Elon Mush can and will run circles around the Deep State Pukes and Maggots all day long and never break a sweat in doing so. Yeah, he is that much smarter than they are.
Musk had no long-term plans to stay and manage Twitter anyway.
He’s got several companies.
Seemed pretty obvious to some of us.
Of course Elon Musk is going to tap a CEO for Twitter.
There is no way he is going to be able to simultaneously run multiple global companies as CEO and do any of them justice.
He's having fun with the poll thing but fact is he was going to appoint a CEO all along once he got things moving in the right direction.
I doubt Elon has asked a question he didn’t already know the answer to since he was in short pants.
He had his reasons to do the poll......I also doubt we’ve heard the last of this......more to come I suspect.
There is no way that Musk was going to be the permanent full-time Twitter CEO. That is a full time job and he already has a bunch of other stuff going on. He will remain the owner, and appoint someone to take the CEO role.
“I will abide by this poll?”
Ha Ha, when? After he deletes deepstate bots I hope.
World Cup final: Sebastian Kurz, Jared Kushner and Elon Musk in the stadium

. As the “Standard” reports, television pictures showed the ex-chancellor half an hour before kick-off entering the stadium together with Jared Kushner, son-in-law and former chief adviser to ex-US President Donald Trump.
Money, Musk, and power broker meeting deciding what’s next. Poll is just for show
That is brilliant. It never occurred to me that might be what he is doing. But will it yield anything useful? Botnets use spoofed IP addresses, so that collection of IP addresses isn’t useful. “IP spoofing allows the attacker to mask the botnet because each bot in the network has a spoof IP address, making the malicious actor challenging to trace.”
He is in a 4 way conference call online right now talking about building a second layer on Bitcoin to allow it to scale. A new kind of worldwide currency. Interesting.
I just started using Twitter and wasn’t sure what a bot was. Then I started seeing all these tweets in my timeline praising the Megan and Harry Netflix series in the most maudlin, over the top language imaginable. Virtually every reply was the exact same with slightly different words being used. Now I know what bots are.
Ugh. It’s going to be Jared.
“The Dude abides.”
