Kate Winslet, 47, floated her opinion Saturday on the infamous “Titanic” door debate using her experience with paddle boarding while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

The debate — which has been going on for nearly 25 years since the film’s release — first floated to the surface during the climatic scene of James Cameron’s “Titanic,” where Rose (played by Winslet) is laying on a shattered door leaving her love interest Jack ( played by Leo DiCaprio) to freeze in the water.

Several people who have watched the 1997 film have argued that if Rose had moved over, both she and Jack would have survived.

DiCaprio redeemed himself in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. That movie totally changed how I see him.

We shouldn’t overthink this. The director wanted Jack to give up his life to save Rose. Science had nothing to do with it.

Movies tend to portray men as heroes only if they die or at least risk their lives.

Rose, on the other hand, was perfectly fine with letting Jack die if it meant that she might make it to one more buffet.

Well, all the news they are giving us; and this fairy tale is the most important thing we need to be concerned about.

OH, I see. Of course, the fiance, Cal, DID hit her, so in a way I don’t blame her for rejecting him. But she didn’t have to sleep with Jack, pose nude for him, and then rub Cal’s nose in it by putting the nude drawing where he’d find it.

“DiCaprio redeemed himself in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. That movie totally changed how I see him.”

I thought he did a good job in ‘The Departed’, that role was a big departure for him from what he usually did IMO.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame her for rejecting the fiancee. He was the controlling villain.

But even at the last scene, she could have rescued Jack by playing up to the fiancee. Assuage his ego, reject Jack. The fiancee would have gotten his victory. Rose was so self-absorbed she didn’t think about protecting Jack (even if she temporarily hurt him in the short-term).

Just weak, weak, weak.

If anyone was a danger to my husband, I would tell any lie, pull any stunt, do whatever I needed to do to protect him, to give him a chance to survive. Where there is life, there is hope.

And why they heck didn’t they switch places on the door? He could have made it if she wasn’t so selfish.

And why did she toss the necklace overboard? Give it to the crew who spent millions looking for it. What a waste!

Sorry if I sound judgmental. I’ve been in dicey, life and death situations before, including an active shooter with bullets flying. I made sure the people around me were safe first and worried about myself last. I kept it together until I got home...then I cried like a baby in my husband’s arms.

I enjoyed Titanic for the recreation of final hours. The “love story” made me want to puke.

ummm, the whole point of the movie is the celebration of perfect love. Had he lived - and both of them are on the ship looking for the Titanic...talking: Well, she says, “he was so hansom and charming. I never would have guessed he’s spend 50 years forgetting to put the toilet seat down. And Jack responds with, “And you with all that beauty and a headache most nights...” The movie needs to end the way it did...

He told Rose that he was poor and they would be happy and he would love her always.
Rose only her ‘he was poor’ so she shoved him under the water.

maybe Rose knew what a jerk Leo would turn out to be, so maybe it was better that she let Jack die.

Interesting. Circumstantial relationships often cannot survive daily life. There was some action film around a hot inter racial affair between a white cop and the fire cracker black gf of a dead dope peddler. They bond together to survive the attempts of both the dead bf’s ‘bros’ and a pack of feral Mexican gangster who believe, incorrectly, that the pair know where the dead guy’s stash of dope, dough and guns are. After surviving one murder attempt after another by cooperating to graduate, and having a whole lot of heavy duty sex along the way, at the end of the trail these two know that everyday life would quickly sink their relationship and part after a hot kiss by shaking hands like the end of some Jimmy Stewart western and literally walk off in opposite directions.

*severe eyeroll*

I’m interpreting a move to mainstream these idiotic ‘interactive’ games to theatrical films. I believe that I recall mistakenly clicking on some such films in streaming and quickly getting disgusted.

Imagine a theatrical release of Titanic proportions being projected upon the screen from a computer and all the seats having buttons to vote A-B-C-D etc.

I’m not having any of that, but I’m of the camp who refused free avatar tickets today. So there.
