This morning I'm picking up my brand spanking new Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road edition. It's my first new vehicle in almost 40 years.
While I was married, all the new vehicles went to the now ex-wife because I wanted her to be the safest possible and I was ok driving the 'hand me downs' due to my very short commute.
As we had kids, that continued with her getting the new vehicles with the most safety features for her and our two sons.
I never considered it a "sacrifice" to always drive the highly used vehicles and her & the kids getting the new ones. To me, it's what good husbands & dads do for their wives & kids: protect them as much as possible. Zero regrets there.
It really struck me yesterday that this will be my first new vehicle in almost 40 years. Mine.
I'd been searching for a replacement for the aging 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/140,000 miles on it for almost two years. I had a really hard time finding something I liked driving as much as it.
Alas, the last six months have seen three trips to the Jeep dealer to find an intermittent misfire that occurs in mostly cold weather and at highway speeds. A recall for the fuel pump wiring harness, thought to be the culprit, was done twice. New plugs, wires, checking ignition system and running diagnostics for days on end didn't uncover the problem.
I think I figured it out myself: bad coil pack but am unwilling to replace them all to see if that's really it. The OEM coil packs aren't cheap and while I can do the labor myself, it does have 140k on it. Time for it to go.
Drove a Toyota Highlander and liked it, though it reminds me of a station wagon. Then I saw a nice, lunar rock colored Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road and remembered how much I really like the Tacoma's. Especially that Lunar Rock color.
I’m looking at either a Nissan Quashi or a Toyota Corolla Cross for my next possible vehicle.
Really bad choice!
Just teasing you.
It's made here in America, 70%+ American content, by American workers in a non-union plant.
Tell me how I can be any more American in my purchase than that?
I call shotgun!
You’re more than welcome.
Here’s an example of the plates I’m talking about.
There’s several companies that make them.
I work my ass off. Have my whole life. :-)
Ask my brother from another mother Lazamataz about that. He probably knows me better than damn' near anyone at this point.
You're the first to call it, so you're on.
I know what the Toyota is, no idea what that Nissan model is. Haven’t heard of it.
We all work hard. You deserve one good to have in your life.
We should all be blessed with one good thing in life.
Thank you so very much!
I have a 16 and no complaints.
I know one guy who 400k on a base 2wd model.
Which is exactly why I jumped on this truck. The 2023 Highlanders all come in either a Turbo 4 cyl or a 4 cyl hybrid.
The 4 cyl hybrids were all way too expensive. Drove a 4 cyl turbo and HATED the turbo howl it had. HORRIBLE!
The few remaining USED 6 cyl Highlanders were all over $45k.
The Tacoma became a no brainer and I've really liked them these past few years. So glad to finally own one.
Congratulations on your new vehicle and you’ll love that dependable and rugged and valuable truck.
Yes indeed. I’m supposed to be notified by Subaru about this but haven’t heard a peep.
That's the first 400k report I've seen/heard. I know one with over 200k and a friends son has over 300k on his.
It also comes with 3 years of Toyota Care and I know this may be wasting money (it's mine to waste) I did take a 7 year / 100k bumper to bumper factory warranty for $2250 which with all the electronics this thing has on it, would probably pay for itself with one or two repairs or replacement of the huge screen it has in it.
That and I just didn't want to worry about big repair costs.
I’m going to see about one of those shields after Christmas.
The one for my 16 is at least bookmarked.
Much appreciated.
That 400k Tacoma looked every bit of its mileage.
I think the guy still has it.
He was driving it every day in until recently.
You young guys and your toys. 140K used to be no biggie with a Jeep but things ain’t like the used to be. Enjoy your new ride. Glad you stayed away from chEVrolet. Their new ads turn me off to no end. Sadly it appears that is going to be the EVentuality for all the car companies. I did read that Toyota isn’t going all in yet though. Replace the front and rear bumpers with more rugged ones (real steel)[https://bumpersuperstore.com/c-1207171.9-shop-bumpers-by-vehicle-toyota-tacoma-toyota-tacoma-2016-2023.html], add a winch and BOOM! LOL! I put a ranchand diamond plate on the rear on my Ram after the stock one got bent by someone hitting it while parked. Bent the crap out of the stock one. Which I sold on Craigs list so......... 😎👍
