If an owner notices or smells smoke around the dashboard or driver's foot well, they should shut off the engine and call a dealer or roadside assistance.
DETROIT — Subaru is telling the owners of nearly 272,000 SUVs in the U.S. to park them outdoors due to the risk of a fire.
The company is recalling the 2019 through 2022 Ascents after getting reports of two fires. There were no reports of injuries.
The company says a bolt that holds the ground terminal of a heater may not have been fastened properly during assembly.
That can cause the terminal and surrounding parts to melt, increasing the risk of fire.
Subaru says the Ascents should be parked away from structures and should not be left unattended with the engine running until repairs are made. If an owner notices or smells smoke around the dashboard or driver's foot well, they should shut off the engine and call a dealer or roadside assistance.
Dealers will replace the bolt and a ground wire and connector holder if necessary.
Subaru says owners will be contacted within 60 days. They can check if their Ascent is affected by entering their 17-digit vehicle identification number here:

Yep, used to drive by the dealership weekly (to guitar lessons) and see it in the showroom window.
“Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool” ........
“If you make something idiot-proof, someone will just make a better idiot.” .....
“If you make something ‘idiot proof’, only an idiot would use it!”.................
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In product design, we always said “You can’t make it idiot-proof, only idiot-resistant.”
Amen!
This is the result of CAD, Computer Aided Design.
Every automobile today is designed using it.
Soon, there won’t be a difference between any of them at all..............
That's for the Ferrari.
1976 530i. This was my car to a tee. I loved the color. I miss that beast.
THAT could have been fatal.
My friend I could tell you stories all day long about the things I saw and investigated.... that shotpeen story wouldn’t even crack the top ten.......no joke. SMH
The girl had taken the tool and installed the fuseholder according to the work instructions, BUT when it ‘clicked and slipped’ she didn’t stop, she just kept turning the wrench.
= = =
I see the Techs at the tire store do this, too. Click and a couple of more bumps.
After carefully dialing in the correct torque value.
So I go home, get a big wrench and readjust everything. Don’t want some lug too tight if I need to do a road side tire change.
I saw a lug bolt torqued off the hub once...............
Recently they torqued one of mine too tight for even my air impact wrench to loosen it.
I heard about a lady who would walk over and adjust the thermostat in the Church sanctuary during the service.
So the janitor and pastor didn’t say anything, but just disconnected that thermostat.
That a very crappy kinda love, baby.
I think most of that similarity is due to aero and drag for mandated fuel mileage.
Now, the front of pickup trucks ARE different.
Ford vs Chevy vs Ram to see who can make the most scariest looks like toothed dragon Semi grill closing quickly in your rear view mirror.
Virtually all driven by aerodynamics and side-impact requirements.
Sounds like a good idea...
My business partner drove a lime green 911 in the late 70’s. He offered to sell it to me at quite a good price but I passed...it was quick but very uncomfortable (I would have used it daily as part of my job). I couldn’t crank up the Alpine sound system loud enough to compensate lol.
When a Subaru catches fire, the manufacturer says it’s an “assembly error.”
When a Tesla catches fire, the manufacturer says it’s an “undocumented feature.”
