While browsing around I cam across this AI search engine by Elon Musk. Is there anything he is not into? There is a trail version at the website and is free for right now. It will ask for your name, email, and phone number. It is web based so no download. Supposedly this will put Google out of business within two years. I tried "FreeRepublic"and it came up with this:
FreeRepublic is a forum website that is popular among conservatives and libertarian-leaning individuals. It was founded in 1996 by Jim Robinson, and it is known for its discussions of news and political events from a conservative perspective. Members of the forum can post articles, comment on existing posts, and engage in discussions with other members. The forum also has a number of features, such as the ability to create your own blog and participate in polls.

So the AI bot wants your info and will then record your questions so it can build a psychological profile on you.
Fred, you have gotta try this search engine. It is quite chippy, and will talk back to you. BTW, heard nothing about LucyT nor did she answer my e-mail.
lol
“(i)t will ask for your name, email, and phone number.”

Standard website signup protocol, to prevent the registration of bots, is to require an email address and cell phone number. Both are then used to confirm an actual person is signing up for an account, provide for 2-factor-auth, and prevent one person from having multiple accounts, or at least more than 1 account per cell phone.
I do not see it.
Yes. The AI doesn’t want to waste its time collecting information on people who are not real.
Yes but then you’re feeding this platform questions which tells it some things about you. That’s what AI is all about. I have websites with registration forms and I can see the email/username of people who register. If they create content, talk in the forum etc, that gets recorded in the database but manually reading them would be cumbersome. AI can record and analyze that data because that’s what they’re programming AI to do.

AI is an overhyped term. There is nothing magical about it. It gets applied in too many circumstances, along with the term machine learning, where there is in reality little more than a decision tree; a decision tree ultimate coded by a person.
” so it can build a psychological profile on you.”
Since you’re from FR, your profile will consist of two words:
Irredeemable crank.
:)
“Supposedly this will put Google out of business within two years.”
Not likely, since the AI is probably USING google to help it answer everyone’s questions, like most of the other AI out there.
Yeah, Google is great. I thought it was interesting that CNET thought perhaps this would give Google some competition. It does the same as Google, scrape sites and such, so there is no secret there. I’m going to play around with some more later.
Just made my first rap song with a FR TWIST.
ChatGPT
“My friend Lazzmatazz, oh so bold
He’s got a way with words, and a heart of gold
He’s got style and grace, and a killer flow
My friend Lazzmatazz, he’s the real deal, that’s for sure
He says ugly women, are guilty as sin
But the pretty ones, he’d tap them on the chin
He’s got a way with words, and a smile so bright
My friend Lazzmatazz, he’s a lady’s delight
He’s got a charm, that could melt an ice queen
And when he starts to move, it’s like a dream
He’s got the rhythm, and the flow to spare
My friend Lazzmatazz, he’s a rap star, without a care
He’s got the ladies, falling at his feet
With a cold word, he can make their hearts beat
He’s got the looks, and the brains to boot
My friend Lazzmatazz, he’s a lady killer, that’s for sure
So if you see him around, give him a high five
My friend Lazzmatazz, he’s the man to keep alive
He’s got it all, and then some
My friend Lazzmatazz, the rap star, he’s second none.
I’m going to try my own poem.... That is totally cool!
Pretty sure ChatGPT is not from Elon;

participate in polls of other websites
Very refreshing to see Free Republic come up in a search as what it actually is, as opposed to being described as a "far-right extremist conservative web discussion platform."
You get the picture.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ChatGPT
ChatGPT is a prototype artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI that specializes in dialogue. The chatbot is a large language model fine-tuned with both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques. The base model that was fine-tuned was OpenAI’s GPT-3 language model.
The models were trained in collaboration with Microsoft on their on Azure supercomputing infrastructure.
Meanwhile it’s proprietary software
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenAI
OpenAI is an artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory consisting of the for-profit corporation OpenAI LP and its parent company, the non-profit OpenAI Inc. The company, considered a competitor to DeepMind, conducts research in the field of AI with the stated goal of promoting and developing friendly AI in a way that benefits humanity as a whole. The organization was founded in San Francisco in late 2015 by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and others, who collectively pledged US$1 billion. Musk resigned from the board in February 2018 but remained a donor. In 2019, OpenAI LP received a US$1 billion investment from Microsoft.
Hardly a connection so the article is BS and since cnet is all about tech, it’s just a Musk slamming narrative because he’s taking twitter in the direction of free speech and outing leftists at the same time.
Well that explains it. I’ve only been here since 2016
