Watch: Tom Cotton Hits Woke CEO with 9 Brutal Words After Kroger, Albertsons Come Crying to GOP

Members of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust and Consumer Rights questioned the woke CEOs of grocery store giants Kroger and Albertsons about their proposed $25 billion merger last week.

Fearing this deal will “raise prices, cut jobs and exacerbate inequality in food access through the closing of more locations,” unions and progressive advocacy groups oppose the deal and have lobbied the Biden administration to stop the planned merger, according to The Hill,

During his questioning of Kroger CEO William Rodney McMullen, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, a Republican, delivered one of the best legislative smackdowns I’ve seen in a long time.

-snip

Cotton also referenced Kroger’s “Allyship Guide,” which instructed employees to stop using the terms “‘sir’ and ‘ma’am’ because they’re not inclusive.”

“Okay. You know, this situation reminds me a little bit of the situation Big Tech companies have found themselves in in recent years. They’ve come to Washington because they fear regulation from our Democratic friends or action by the Biden Administration. And they expect Republicans, who are traditionally more supportive of free enterprise to come to their defense. And I have cautioned them for years that if they silence conservatives and center right voters across the country, if they discriminate against them in their company, they probably shouldn’t come and ask Republican senators to carry the water for them whenever our Democratic friends want to regulate them or block their mergers.”

Then came the zinger: “So, I have heard a lot of questioning about that today, and I’ve read a lot about it in the news, and I will say this: I’m sorry that’s happening to you. Best of luck.”

We have Fred Meyer in our city, owned by Kroger for several years. Their store is immaculate, employees well-trained and helpful, and their prices are lower than most other stores. terrific selection of organic fruits and veggies, smart produce managers.

Homeless camp across the road from them now, homeless guys cruise their parking lot asking for $$. so they set up a delivery system.

One big fat man in NYC owns all the Albertson’s and Safeway stores in America. They were very expensive until recently, when he obviously hired new product managers. I can get wonderful organic fruit and veggies there now at excellent prices. Even the employees are happy about the changes. And their employees are super friendly, always chat with them at checkout. I don’t care whether they call me M’am.

I’m so blessed to live in Spokane.

Scotus determined this was a 14th Amendment right.

It took modern savants, philosopher-kings to divine what the Framers of the 14A and ratifying states didn’t know in 1868.

In my state there is no Harris-Teeter. Never heard of it. We do have Kroger though.

Large Kroger store ~1 mile from me. High prices on everything.

Albertsons store only ~2 miles from me. Manageable prices, friendly personnel, fresh produce, great meat and fish market.

I like my Albertsons and don’t think the merger would be good for consumers.

Albertsons and Tom Thumb are now owned by Randalls.

Nice words, Tom. Now let’s follow that with meaningful action, and I’m not talking about sternly worded letters.

What else can he do? The Dems won the Senate.
