A father died in Tennessee on Thanksgiving day after he caught on fire as hospital staff attempted to use a defibrillator on him.
Bobby Ray Stark was bedridden for seven years and relied on his wife of 35 years, Kathy Stark, for care, according to WKRN. He went to the hospital for a foot infection and bed sores last month was later transferred to TriStar Centennial, where he coded and staff tried to revive him with a defibrillator, Kathy told the outlet.
"Then they started the paddles, and it just blew up, everything," Kathy told WKRN. "I saw that, and I just burst out."
Kathy told the outlet that she watched the flames cover her husband's body.
"He got burned in the throat, the face, the head, the chest and his hands. And he got burnt really bad, he was on fire, and I said, 'He's on fire, put him out,'" Kathy told WKRN.
Staff took Stark to the burn unit, where he later died on Thanksgiving night, Kathy told the outlet. In the wake of his death, she is staying with his daughter, Joyce Feakes.

Well that’s horrible. Hopefully he felt nothing…
RIP. Strange way to die, on a holiday no less.
Alcohol disinfectant probably...
Better to burn out, than to fade away.
Human Spontaneous Combustion?................
Really a horrible tragedy, especially during the holidays.
Hey, how was your Thanksgiving?
Was he on oxygen?
Something is missing in this story, IMO.
Somebody used alcohol based hand sanitizer instead of conducting gel on the defibrillator panels.
“Then they started the paddles, and it just blew up, everything,” Kathy told WKRN. “I saw that, and I just burst out.”

From the description, it sounds like high oxygen levels might have resulted in the explosive fire. Horrible.
If they were defibrillating, he was “dead” before being burned, as he was in cardiac arrest. I guess they got a pulse back. He was probably pretty sick. Tragic story.
The presence of oxygen in therapeutic quantities isn’t an issue — it’s in use all the time, particularly during a resuscitation effort.
I’ve seen defibrillation pads arc and catch fire once, when they were damaged under CPR compressions.
I once watched a guy sanitize his hands and then he lit a cigarette.
Poof!
With too many now rejecting the jab, the medical community has to resort to more draconian measures.
My late wife’s alcohol and tobacco addicted father detonated a fair explosion in his hospital room. He was on oxygen while recovering from one of his numerous heart attacks but his comment ‘Nobody gonna keep from my smokes.’ was followed by pulling his oxygen mask off and lighting up as the pure oxygen pumped out. All he got was minor singe burns but the blast set the room on fire and led to a mass evacuation of old Charlotte Memorial Hospital. He should gotten a ton of criminal charges but the hospital people knew he would show up smirking in court in a wheel chair with an oxygen tank and a weeping wife. He was a truly awful person. Heart attack 6 did him in at age 54.
Assisted Spontaneous Combustion
Can the metal particles in the covid vax short out?
Assisted Resuscitation Combustion (ARC)
The reason oxygen is so dangerous is not because it burns, it doesn't, it allows other things to burn more rapidly. Pure O2 won't go bang in a fire, but anything that is flammable can burn hotter and faster because of its presence.
