An Indiana couple who struggled with infertility adopted a baby that was dropped off at a hospital's Safe Haven Box.
Bruce and Shelby Faltynski, 39 and 35, coped with their infertility by becoming foster parents before welcoming two adopted children this year, including nearly newborn baby Myah on November 18.
Myah was anonymously dropped off at a Chicago hospital's Safe Haven Box per Chicago law that allows mothers to give up their child until 45 days after birth without legal repercussions.
'A lot of people have nine months to prepare for a baby,' Bruce told Fox News. 'We had nine days.'
The couple, who were previously foster parents, had adopted eight-year-old Kaia in March and initially hesitated to adopt Myah due to their busy schedules. But they eventually said yes to experience raising a baby from birth.
The identity of Myah's biological mother is unknown, according to Bruch, who is a police officer with Mishawaka Police Department. But the family said they are open for Myah to have a relationship with her if the opportunity occurs.
'We pray for her mom, and we're grateful for the choice that she did choose... life,' Bruce told the news outlet.
Shelby thought about the choice Myah's biological mother had to drop her off at the hospital and added: 'I couldn't imagine being in a situation where I felt like I had no other option.'

Now that is going to be one wonderful Christmas.
Cool!😉👌
In the USA you can abandon your baby in a box. You don’t have to give your name or number. You don’t have to give a reason. There is no charge.
Here’s the procedure for dropping off a pet at a local shelter. Taken from a website.
1. Call us at xxxxxx. We’ll discuss options and some ideas you may not have considered.
2. Fill out a “pet’s personality profile form”
3. Send the form in. We’ll contact you for an appointment. You must be there with your animal.
4. Your pet will be examined. Some will not be accepted depending on the results of the exam.
5. We’ll ask you for a fee of $80 for each animal.
An alien from another planet would look at this and conclude that all Earthlings are insane, and also stupid, because they cannot see the deep contradiction between these two situations.
I don’t care about NO RULES the babies are adopted and not killed!! You can also drop them at any fire station or police station NO Questions or investigations!!!
That is because it is hard to find people who will take discarded pets as they have little to no value.
Finding people to take Human Babies is easy and they will even pay for the privilege. Because Human Babies have intrinsic worth.
I would say a species advanced enough to fly in space would probably understand this easily.
I am all in favor of making it as easy as possible for mothers to safely abandon babies that they do not want. There are long lists of loving prospective parents who would gladly take full and lifelong responsibility for any babies that are not wanted by their birth parents.
There are private shelters who will take dogs no questions asked. A friend works for such a place. People leave dogs secured by leashes on their front porch regularly.
What about the biological father of the baby?
What if he wanted to raise his own baby?
The mother of the baby not wanting to raise the baby does not mean the father of the baby not wanting to raise the baby.
Mothers of babies should not be legally entitled to abandon babies with out the permission of the fathers of the babies.
I still get a laugh thinking about when they first implemented these programs. Some states didn’t have an “upper age limit” on the “babies,” and some parents were dropping off teenagers.

What if I drop off a box of puppies or kittens at the fire station?
Will they track me down for the paperwork and fees?
If a kid can declare as a cat, a kitten can declare as a baby.
Amen
That might be a "no kill" shelter, which would have expenses housing an animal until it can attract a "forever home." If you take an animal to a random "pound" because it's free, you may be signing the critter's death warrant if no one adopts it quickly.
As a general rule if you did not keep in contact with the chick you were banging enough to know that this baby might be yours and show up to claim it that is on you.

Baby Daddy is welcome to show up, do a DNA test and claim the child.
I wouldn’t say they need the father’s permission, since anyone dropping off a baby probably doesn’t have the character to be a parent and I wouldn’t want to stop her from getting herself out of the picture quickly. But IDENTIFYING the father, that’s what should be required so that the father can apply with some priority to other applicants. Or make a DNA collection site at police stations where men who think they MIGHT be fathers can leave DNA to match future dropoffs.
Termination of the mother's parental rights does not terminate the father's parental rights. In most of these cases, the father is either unknown or has no interest in raising the child. If either parent wants to raise the child and is not unfit to do so (it is a high burden, e.g., a crack addict or an imprisoned felon), he or she will have preference over anyone else.
My hospital in southern NJ has the same program.
I still have nightmares sometimes when working a construction job in the Bronx in the late ‘70’s I found a frozen dead new born in a dumpster on a cold January morning.
God that was horrible.
