It depends on the size of the kaboomin’ star. Also, I put the transcript up for the few who refuse to watch the video itself.

“It would take a light year of lead just to give you a 50-50 chance of stopping a neutrino,”

What is a light year of lead?

How big is the star?

It has the mass of 1 Sol.

How far away is the star?

About 93,000,000 miles on the average, call it 8 light minutes.

Inverse square law is our friend.

Sometimes...

On the bright side our Sun is a periodic micronova, with a periodicity of about 12,000 years.

On the really, really, really too bright side the last pop was about 12,000 years ago.

Iirc the closest star is like 4.3 light years away.

The next closest star, of course.

To put this distance in perspective, if you could scale our sun down to the size of a pea, our closest stellar neighbor, Proxima Centauri would be about the size of a peppercorn.

They would be separated by a distance of 118 miles.

Space is really, really big.

No more size restrictions, and screw the limit.
