Bill Barr: Trump Will Burn Down the GOP. Time for New Leadership.
Common Sense ^ | 11/21/2022 | William P. Barr

Posted on 11/21/2022 1:03:23 PM PST by Grandpa Drudge

The Republican Party has a historic opportunity to revive the old Reagan coalition. The person standing in the way is the 45th president, writes the former attorney general.

During the Republican primaries in 2016, I supported, in succession, every alternative to Donald Trump. I did not see him as our party’s standard-bearer. He was not my idea of a president. I could see that he was grossly self-centered, lacked self-control, and almost always took his natural pugnacity too far. While he could be compelling, I found myself cringing at his frequently juvenile, bombastic, and petulant style.

I also saw Trump’s strengths. I liked the clear and direct way he staked out a position and his willingness to state unpleasant truths that many were afraid to say. I appreciated that he was willing to confront head-on difficult issues—like unfair trade deals, or our allies’ paltry defense spending—that other politicians dodged. Above all, Trump had accurately diagnosed, and given voice to, the deep frustration of many middle-class and working-class Americans who were fed up with the excesses of progressive Democrats; the shameless partisanship of the mainstream media; and the smug condescension of elites who had mismanaged the country, sold them out, and appeared content to preside over the decline of America.

But it is now clear he lacks the qualities essential to achieving the kind of unity and broad election victory in 2024 so necessary if we are to right our listing republic. It is time for new leadership.

In other words, President Trump did not roll over for the left like most of the other Republicans do. Nor, did he roll over for the neocon deep state. We can’t spare this man, he fights!

Leaving aside his other comments about Trump, I don’t think Barr is entirely wrong in saying that Trump and/or many of his supporters want to burn the GOP down. Especially if he doesn’t win the nomination.

Well, according to YOUR tagline, he should have! After all he had to have someone the DSBitch Mitch had to approve or never would the new AG get thru the Senate, right? Pretty silly to blame Trump for BushieBackstabbers... ymmv...

As opposed to the fine character possed by Biden, Hillary, Obama, Clinton, etc. Yea, they have PR person writing the narrative and they are all reading the script. Long planned which makes them even more reprehensible. I guess they think that no one sees thru them. Hey Bill, how about Ruby Ridge. Epstein and more? You’re a peach.

No “new leadership” that Barr is involved with, thank you.

Personally, I hope Trump doesn’t run but continues to threaten to do so. We need somebody younger, but threatening keeps candidates on their toes and makes them clarify their messages.

As the leader of the Republican Party...perfect. That’s what he should be. His policies were great, he has a positive approach (which we certainly need), and he’s necessarily abrasive but maybe he could be persuaded to direct it at Dems and not at other Republicans.

There are two things I didn’t like: letting Nancy tear up the SOTU with no repercussions (which seriously emboldened the Wicked Witch of the West), and letting Fauci, Birx and Pence take over the last months of his Presidency and declare this horrible shutdown and all the other nonsense.

But on the whole, he’s a bold figure and he really should be the leader of the GOP.

Obama comes to mind. But Obama, unlike Trump, hates America.

The problem is that anyone else that runs will be on team Barr/Ryan/McConnell, etc.

I kind of agree that "that Trump and/or many of his supporters want to burn the GOP down" as you say.

I really believe that the GOP RINOs, starting at the very top (Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and quite a few more) are actually at the very root of the problem, and need to be replaced ASAP.

The GOP is in severe need of a major overhaul!

Not necessarily. Trump has got to get his program out there, he’s got to get the GOP honchos on his side, and he has the clout to do that.

I wish he’d go back on Twitter and stop playing silly games, because he needs to develop institutional support as well as popular support. (We’ve already discovered that we the people mean nothing to the folks in charge.)

Bill Barr: Trump Will Burn Down the GOP. Time for New Leadership.

Barr was burning down the GOP when he turned a blind eye to election fraud.

McConnel was burning down the GOP when he defunded and trashed MAGA candidates before the election.

Trump has never done anything to sabotage the GOP.

These people do what they complain about.
