AUSTIN, Texas – College students still trying to "shake it off" after scalpers jacked up resale tickets to Taylor Swift’s upcoming Era’s tour, sometimes hitting tens of thousands of dollars, sounded off to Fox News.
"It's just so much gluttony in the world," a University of Texas student, Leila, told Fox News.
Melis, another UT student, called the Swift resale prices "very exploitative."
"I do not agree with people that both buy tickets and then resell them and price gouge," she said.
Ticketmaster crashed after millions of buyers, including bots, flooded the site to purchase pre-sale tickets for Swift's tour — the pop star’s first in five years — with some fans coming up empty-handed after waiting for hours. Resale prices skyrocketed, hitting $23,520 for the Las Vegas show and $45,000 for the Philadelphia gig.
"I don't know how so many people that are reselling were able to get their hands on it, 'cause she did do the verified system," Kaylie, who purchased tickets for $50 a piece through a verified fan pre-sale, told Fox News.
The resale rates were prohibitive for people like Nicole, who compared the thousand-dollar prices to her housing budget.
"That's rent money," the UT student told Fox News. "If they have that much money to throw around, then they should donate it to me."
Ticketmaster, which sold tickets for Swift's tour almost exclusively along with SeatGeek, on Thursday canceled a planned public sale for tickets, citing "insufficient remaining ticket inventory." The New York Times reported that Live Nation, Ticketmaster, has been under a Department of Justice investigation that began before the Swift fiasco.

They can ask that price, but anyone purchasing at that price is certifiable loon.
burn the scalpers a couple times...not sure how...
Thank you for your service.
Agree.. and I was never a fan of hers. I’m not into the pop crap and she was pop crap in country before doing whatever the hell she’s doing now.
I saw Potsy walking down a concourse at LAX... for free.
Led Zep maybe $10
On has to take into account the cost of money
1972 $10
2022 $65
This is an average inflation rate of 3.81% and cumulative inflation of 536.17%.
In retrospect, I always thought that drum kit I “stole” for $150 in 1970 was a great deal.
1971 $150
2022 $985
Maybe not as good of deal as I imagined.
The irrational argument bandied about is that TM is capitalism: If the tickets sell, that’s the market.
However, we’re not talking about a product like a classic car at an auction house. TM is a professional scalper service illegitimately spiking ticket prices through a manipulated, closed market despite ticket prices established by either venues or the artists themselves. In short, there is no competition to temper prices. That is NOT capitalism.
This has been a long-unfolding train-wreck for decades and should have been resolved by the SEC years ago.
That stated, I think we’ve identified the problem:
Government.
The merger of TM & Live Nation should never have been permitted.
It’s analogous to the ‘cash for clunkers; effect upon the used car market, most particularly in causation.
“It’s just so much gluttony in the world,”
She can eat it.
I’ve met with Howe a few times, both after solo concerts. He’s very very nice, but a bit neurotic about someone hurting his hands (I guess a fan squeezed his hand really hard during a handshake).
Herb is worth $800 million…
His album and the Star Wars album were my favorites when I was about 4 years old.
I saw YES twice - the last time “in the round” from a private suite in the arena.
Saw Randy Travis and Alan Jackson in about 1991 for about $30 CAD.
Saw Kansas i 1983 for free including backstage passes. Friend of a friend of the band
They don’t want to spend hours online or to pay the market rate for tix in great demand but limited supply.
So what do they want? A lottery? That’s more iffy than the other approaches, if they actually want to make the concert. But just imagine once all the states got geared up for that!
Don’t worry. MN Senator Amy Klobuchar is investigating!!
Amy will call 8 witnesses, 5 who be against free market and Republicans will call 3 DC area think tank “experts.” The end result? Lots of soundbites and nothing will happen.
We had a teen club in Dayton,OH called The Caverns located in the lower level of a shopping strip.
The stage was 12” high so the performers were “right there”.
For $1, I saw Hollies (w/Graham Nash), Simon&Garfunkel among others.
The warm-up group for S&G was a local teen band McCoys led by the the VERY talented guitarist/singer Rick Zehringer who had a hit with “Hang On Sloopy”.
The McCoys stayed on stage and was the backing band for S&G.
A short time later, Rick Zehringer left the group, moved to LA, changed his last name to Derringer and immediately became a highly accomplished session guitarist playing on Steely Dan albums among others.

Yep. Imagine a 20 year old who has never earned a nickel in her entire life. Shes been nothing butva parasite all that time.
My wife and I have never heard a Taylor Swift song...is she any good?
I think the REAL story here is that FOX was able to locate a college student that knows how to budget her money.
