What to expect if our society collapses. A 4:51 short video by Matt Bracken and George McMillan.
This is the shortest of the three videos by Matt Bracken and George McMillan that were posted to youtube yesterday. I highly recommend giving this a watch.
Panic porn in the morning!
Matt and I disagree on a few things.
This is not one of them.
L
I did.
If we are talking about a full collapse of society, food and ammo wont even be enough. A lot of people will act violent and die, out of desperation, and also out of lack of moral fiber or ability to produce for themselves, and they will die early. But in full chaos without any law or authority, people ban together in packs and hordes, and they also get clever. They will take resources they need, including fuel, and they will use their numbers and speed to their advantage, overwhelming people who think they can just take potshots with a scope.
Groups (gangs, hordes, whatever) will get bigger, in order to fend off rival groups. Thus, you will inevitably end up with war-lords holding territories. Once that happens, your little family commune with makeshift walls and line-of-sight defenses wont last. War-lords will fall, and territories will get bigger, but the bloodshed will turn into genocide.
All of this, of course, is moot.
If the SHTF, and the problem isn’t global, then you will inevitably have UN and foreign “peace keeping” boots on our soil.
We had a preview of how bad things will get 2 years ago when they shut the nation down practically. Folks wiped out grocery stores in a matter of days with their panic buying. It was unreal. Shelves were empty of things like noodles, rice, canned foods, etc, all stuff that would keep. And of course they wiped out the cleaning isles for things like hand sanitizer, lysol etc.
Folks were battling each other over things like toilet paper, food stuff, etc. And all for nothing.
Companies stil. Haven’t recovered either. Several products I used to get are no longer available apparently because they went under for, lack,of help during that period.
There were videos showing thieves waiting outside supermarkets for women to come out with carts full of food, and the criminals would block the person’s car in and rob them by force.
If things go south after 4 years of tyranny by the biden green regime, its gonna get much worse. Probably already is in some places.
I see the news isn’t reporting on store chains c,osing due to theft- either that has slowed down, or they are suppressing the news because of where the stores are located.
All interesting points on this thread. One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is in all the chaos, there are those who would use the opportunity for “score settling”, and I’m not talkkng about the ‘key the door of the car with a political bumper sticker’ kind. That aspect could get really, really nasty.
“There is nearly zero down side to stock piling food items that can survive for 5 , 10 or (If you buy from survival retailers) 25 years.”
Other than the expense of packaged survival foods I agree. But if one does a bit of research and learns a few skills our grandparents took for granted you can easily put back a years worth of more without spending a fortune.
Learn how to can. For the price of 15 days worth of dehydrated food you can buy yourself a high quality pressure canner and cases of jars, lids, and bands. With that you can put back as much of your own high quality food as you wish.
We got our 17 quart All American Canner second hand off Craigslist. $100. That thing will last you a lifetime and beyond if properly cared for.
Buy a dehydrator. Once again we found an Excalibur 5 tray on Craigslist for $50. It makes excellent jerkies and dried fruit. These will last months stored properly.
The commercial survival foods have their place. But they’re expensive and require lots of water. Home canned beef stew, however, does not. And we are eating stuff we canned two years ago. The flavor isn’t lost and all we have to do is heat it up.
Add in rice, beans, and dried pasta and you’ll be able to feed yourself and your family for months if not years. You’ll know what’s in it because you made it. No preservatives, artificial flavors or colors, just real food.
Does it take some time and effort? Yep. Sure does.
Will you learn a valuable skill? Damned straight you will.
As to ammunition; if you haven’t already learned to reload and laid in components in quantity then it’s pretty much too late. I’ve been obtaining primers, powder, and projectiles in quantity for years. Bought it cheap and stacked it deep so to speak.
I’ve got a single stage RCBS for the match grade stuff. A buddy has a Dillon Progressive for cranking out quantity. Between us we have enough powder to give our local Fire Chief a serious case of the vapors. LOL
Just my opinion. As always YMMV.
L
you think godly people won’t also band together to fight them off?
many have. Although for the the last 3 years primers and powder have gotten expensive when you could find them at all. This is why I encourage people to build their firearms collection around a very few popular calibers. I stick with 9mm, 5.56 and 308, along with shotgun.
The government will feed us.(/s)
Nothing except for a shotgun. But I don’t mean to discount a good 22 long rifle firearm as a good survival weapon if you have a ton of ammo, which my shooting buddy has. But it’s almost impossible for most to reload 22 ammo. Shotgun and center fire ammo is easy to reload yourself.
Good advice ;-)
And remember, if the SHTF most game in populated areas will disappear after 6 months or so. The far rural people will do better. Having a lot of fishing equipment and learning to raise chicken will be essential if you want to eat meat.
