Yep. While they were not seen as memes at the time, that is exactly what they were. 🙂
I first saw that painting as a kid, many years ago, and it still amazes me.
He actually defined America as we are and as we want to be.
And that fact is why we were essentially good kids, sitting in our seats for Elvis and the Beatles . . . we had been reared with a strong moral compass and set of boundaries.
We’ve gone from a Rockwell world to a Gahan Wilson world.................
When you have silly, utopian sh!t like "freedom from want" and "freedom from fear" elevated to the same level of God-given rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, you can pretty much close the book on the American experiment.
When you think about it carefully, you can see a natural, unbroken line from "freedom from fear" to "take your vaccine!"
The “freedom from want” pic is making the FB rounds with a block of government cheese replacing the tirkey.
Actually, I am not crazy about the term “Freedom of Worship”, which was Obama’s preferred term. “the free exercise of religion” is far broader, and is what the First Amendment describes.
That he did. Thanks for sharing your epiphany. 🙂
All throughout our history we have had basic good and moral influences particularly towards our women and children.
We men hoisted a woman up on a pedestal and instructed children to be seen and not heard.
EVERYONE knew what "the good book" was and almost faithfully never violated certain boundaries and restrictions.
Yes, I know I'm being simplistic, but that's the purpose of this thread.
We were governed by ourselves whom all had very similar desires and needs.
STUDY Rockwell's illustrations and the "message" he tried to project.
We entered the 50's essentially good kids . . .
