Cup Cakes (different from Cupcakes (one-word)
Cupcakes can be traced back to 1796 when a recipe notation for a cake to be baked in small cups was written in American Cookery (by Amelia Simmons). The earliest known documentation of the term cupcake was in 1828 in Seventy-five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes, and Sweetmeats in Eliza Leslie’s Receipts cookbook.
Cupcakes were originally baked in heavy pottery cups. Today, some bakers still use individual ramekins, small coffee mugs, larger teacups, or other small ovenproof pottery-type dishes for baking their cupcakes.
Today, cupcakes are an art form. Bakers create elaborate decorations and displays utilizing a variety of ingredients. Whether they’re the centerpiece of a wedding, birthday, or anniversary cupcakes satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth. Colorful and fun, these single-serving delights offer a pleasing option when planning any celebration.

Sounds racist. Time to decolonialize cupcakes.
But fitting that with our respect for individualism, America would have invented the cupcake.

When’s African American cupcake day?
now we’re talking! With cherry or strawberry frosting on top- yum!
I’ve gotta say...there are several ways to eat a cupcake...none of them wrong.
1) Snarf it directly out of the little paper cup, nose pressed into the icing. Probably the messiest.
2) Pull the paper cup off of the cupcake and eat it “sans” paper. Less messy, but you’ll still spread crumbs if you’re walking around while consuming.
3) Pull the paper cup off, place the bare cupcake on a small plate...and eat it with a fork. The cleanest of all. Or, better yet, in a dish and add a scoop of ice cream.
Take a fork and stick it in from the bottom of the paper cup and eat it like an ice cream cone.............
Oh my! I LOVE cupcakes! Can’t get enough of them. My mouth is watering, looking at that picture.
I pull the bottom half of the cupcake off and put it on top, making a cupcake sandwich. Less messy, and evens out distribution of frosting and cake.
I knew there’d be more than three ways the eat a cupcake.
I prefer not getting “messy”, so I’m the one that peels the cupcake and puts it on a plate. Usually I’ll put two on the plate, slice them in half (top down), spread them out and put a big glob of ice cream in the middle.
Darn...I’m hungry.
Now that’s decadent. Dessert at your house is clearly an important event.
