Singer Carly Simon’s two older sisters died this week after losing their battles with cancer.
Joanna Simon died on Wednesday after a battle with thyroid cancer, one day before her 86th birthday. Her sister Lucy, 82, died on Thursday of breast cancer.
The three sisters, along with their late younger brother Peter, who died from cardiac arrest while battling cancer, were the children of Richard and Andrea Simon.
Richard Simon was the co-founder of the publishing house Simon and Schuster.
While Carly Simon was the most successful of her siblings, her older sisters both found success in their professional careers, making a mark in their respective industries.

In the end we will all die. Live your life now.
Carly Simon as in one time girlfriend of James Taylor.
Wife.
The human soul, the very essence of who we are, can not be destroyed.
It can only change location.
Carly Simon is 77. Wow.
F____! That is something. Nobody wants to go through that. Prayers and wishes to Carly.
Yes, I knew that. There wasn’t a breakdown of what she inherited and what she’s earned in her singing career, but I’ll bet a LOT of what she’s earned came from her own song writing skills and records. She certainly has a way with words, no doubt. :)
If you like to read, and like books about Rock & Roll, I would suggest, ‘Daisy Jones and The Six’ by Taylor Jenkins Reed.
Didn’t think I’d like it, but it was a REALLY good novel based on a fictional band and their ups and downs through the 70’s...which was ‘my’ era. :)
I see they’ve just made it into a mini-series this year with decent reviews. ;)
That’s tough.
I don’t want to sound crass, but I didn’t think Carly was that old. That really sucks.
I read her autobiography “Boys in the Trees”. Very good. Their father was also a pianist on the concert level. So much talent in the family.
We all are getting old. I turned 60 a few weeks ago and I still can’t believe it. I still feel like I’m in my 30s. Where did all the years go?
Almost epidemic.
RIP and prayers up, to all who loved these women.
So sorry for her great loss. Cancer takes so many.
It sounds like her family has a predisposition to cancer.
I haven’t got time for the pain.
I’m so sorry, Allegra. Always an empty hole.
RIP.
Thank you. ♥️
All three of them had the most beautiful blue-green eyes. RIP to the sisters, and condolences to Carly, who created a lot of the soundtrack of the 70s.
One of my classmates was the top girl in our class. Unlike many who are very talented, she was also a genial person without snobbery to the other students, either those who were competition or those less capable. Although not classically beautiful, she landed a somewhat older, prosperous husband and together they worked hard and became billionaires.
Years later, after achievements written about in the NYT, she won an outstanding alumna award from our college and spoke at graduation. She made generous contributions to many charities. She died of cancer in her early 70s, never yet having seen any grandchildren from her son, and leaving her elderly partner in life to manage his old age without her. What a sad thing.
Still, I’ve been Rich and I’ve been Poor and Rich IS better. ;)
And living BELOW your means is always a smart thing - especially in times like these. Ugh!
Nice story, though. Neither Beau nor I have any kids of our own; we have Steps and Foster kids. :)
We are currently planning on giving it all away. Most likely to our tiny Cow Town in the form of a new fire truck or EMT vehicle, or an expanded fire station, a park, a dog park (my vote!) or to the football team, of which Beau is an alum. One of our local farmers just passed away, unexpectedly. His family (that are worth Big Bucks in dairy and cattle) are doing the same thing. Very inspiring!
It’s nice to have choices like that in life. :)
