Detectives said doctors told them there was a high level of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in his system. They believe the 4-year-old boy ate a large number of THC gummies.
The attending doctor at the hospital said if someone intervened shortly after the boy ate them, his death could have been prevented.
The Sheriff’s Office said statements Clements made to detectives didn’t match evidence they found in the home.

I was under the impression that no one had ever died of a THC overdose. Of course, 4-year-olds are not usually big consumers.

While this is a terrible thing and the parents should be charged.... THIS IS NOT MURDER unless it was intentional.
How many times in past times did children get a hold of chemicals and die? Were those parents all charged with murder?
Yes this is neglect, but not murder.

I’d down the entire bottle of those gummies, just to erase that picture from my brain.
I suspect the murder charges stem from failure to seek medical help immediately upon discovery and continuing to delay until the child was in extremis. Those are all acts of deliberation that meet the criteria for felony murder.
Likely cardiac arrest. THC caused tachycardia in most people at high doses.

This isn’t your 1970’s pot (although I had a friend who became paranoid to the verge of psychosis from that in the 70s, but fortunately backed away in time).
I just read an article in a perfectly ordinary press source this morning about the huge number of teenagers and people in their early 20s turning up in emergency rooms after psychotic breaks - with their systems full of THC. Some can be cured and respond to anti-addiction programs, but about 30% of them then end up as permanent paranoid schizophrenics.
Marijuana now accounts for more addiction problems that all other drugs, including opioids. It’s extremely addictive and is one of the hardest addictions to cure. Pot is supported by and profited on by the federal government, the medical industry, the tobacco industry (since tobacco has been taken away) and the alcohol industry (since many governments are talking about restricting alcohol) and of course the drug gangs.
The government likes it because it makes people stupid and passive (until tht unfortunate psychotic break).
But then - ALL of the school shooters have had major amounts of THC in their system.
I see all these FReepers cheering marijuana legalization … and I just think that they’re easily manipulated fools and have no idea.

The 1980s and 1990s scares regarding “designer drugs” largely concerned analogues – drugs that are reverse-engineered to be similar to known drugs.
Delta-8 THC is basically a synthetic designer drug.
Most people just develop bipolar or schizophrenia which of course increases the number of people saying it's fine.
I didn’t read the article, but THC can easily cause tachycardia and an OD? Horrible...
