Two of the NFL’s wealthiest owners had a fiery back-and-forth during a league-wide owners meeting on Tuesday.
The 32 NFL owners voted 31-1 for the compensation committee to reconstruct the contract of commissioner Roger Goodell. His contract is said to be up after the season ends, according to ESPN.
With the way the votes went, the NFL owners appear to be pleased with the job that Goodell has done since he took over the position from Paul Tagliabue in 2006, according to Bleacher Report. The one outlier who voted against the motion to reconstruct Goodell’s deal was none other than Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones.
Jones and New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, reportedly got into a heated exchange during the meeting, according to ESPN. Jones reportedly told Kraft, who voted with the overwhelming majority ,”don’t f— with me,” to which Kraft replied, “excuse me?”
As the motion passed, the boisterous Cowboys owner told Kraft, “don’t mess with me,” ESPN reported. Why Jones went at Kraft so hard is unknown but when two of the richest sports owners in world spar with verbal jabs at one another it makes for an interesting work day.
As the lone voter against the motion, Jones seems just completely unsatisfied with the job Goodell has done. A league source close to Jones told ESPN that the Cowboys owner believes that Goodell needs to do more to earn his new deal. The source said, “he is sensitive to awarding a big bonus to Roger before he performs and earns it.”
There may not be anyone as respected in the NFL as Jerry Jones is, but to put Kraft in check like this is a bush league move.
My wife thinks that Goodell is the reason the Cowboys are the most flagged team in the NFL. She believes the Refs are under orders from Goodell to throw flags for any and everything, no matter how minor, they can possibly think of just to get back at Jerry...............
Thus the 31-1 vote.
Jerry tried and failed to get the bastard fired back then................
There -- I fixed that for you. It might explain why many of these sports owners are so highly despised here on FR.
Yep; these rich owners talk local governments into subsidizing (or building) their stadiums for them. Whose fault is that? Oh and the the way Karen, there’s a game tonight. The Thursday night games usually suck, but I’ll crack open a beer and enjoy a quarter or two.
National Felons League. Not my circus, not my monkeys.
I guess some people are just born to be customers. :-P
Kraft is stupid... after what Goodell did to Brady over bogus deflategate he should be in favor of running him out of town not giving him a pay raise.
Many years ago Rush L predicted that there were plans afoot to destroy the nfl, I believe he was right and we are seeing the seeds of that destruction coming into bloom.
We do not know what went on behind closed doors.................
Lots of businesses do that. It’s funny both sides decry when a sports team nudges a city into buying them into a new stadium. But hardly anybody blinked at the bidding war for Amazon HQ2. Or for Toyota plants. Or so many other things. Part of running a business well is not paying for anything you don’t have to. And when cities line up to build you buildings that’s not really on you, just good business.
Thing is had they not gone woke they would be incredibly more richer!
“A request for others here is not to attribute words to me that I do not write. I make a great effort to say the words I mean and mean the words I say. Feel free to copy and post MY comments but please, do not paraphrase and attribute your words to me.”
Any idea who wrote that?
This is why the owners are willing to pay Goodell a $100 million. It's all about the Benjamin's.
IF the voters/tax payers in Erie County(Buffalo) or Nashville want to pay for a 2 billion dollar stadium, that is their business.
LOL, so far most of the Thursday Night Games have been snoozefests, and field goal kicking contests.
Please, for the love of all that is holy, do not have the Broncos on Prime Time anymore this season.
Maybe and maybe not.
I suspect more African Americans buy more NFL merchandise per capita than middle aged and old white guys.
I am not saying I agreed with the kneeling crap. I did not.
But the owners were kind of in a pickle. The majority of the players are Blacks(80% or more). However, their fan base is white middle class men.
Yes, the Thursday night and even the Monday night games all have sucked.
The best games are now the 4:30 EST and 8:30 EST Sunday games.
This past weeks Bills/Chiefs game was probably the best of the season. They will most likely meet again in the AFC Championship game. This COULD finally be Buffalo’s year.
