A pass interference call wiped out a crucial interception for the Crimson Tide in the loss at Tennessee.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama has officially been penalized more than any other team in the country.
After the Crimson Tide got called for a program-record 17 penalties Saturday against Tennessee, it's no surprise that penalties were a major theme of Nick Saban's Monday press conference.
Whether it be pass interference, which wiped out a game-sealing interception for the second week in a row, or pre-snap infractions, or special teams penalties that negated big gains, Saban is frustrated with it all.
Depending on the type of infraction, whether or not to throw a flag is a judgement call by the officials in college football, which Saban understands, but the main thing he's asking for his consistency among the officials, particularly when it comes to pass interference.
"Look, my big thing is just consistency," Saban said when asked if he thought pass intereference should be reviewable. "Just call it the same for everybody. And it’s hard to define exactly what you can and can’t do. I would rather see that happen. In the NFL, they defined exactly what you can and can’t do and it’s a really, really difficult judgement call, but you knew exactly what you could and couldn’t do. I think that would be beneficial."

I like the video replay, especially on crucial plays, but the game lasted over 4 hours as it was. Reviewing every questionable call would make it impossibly long. Refs make bad calls and while we gripe about them generally the bad calls even out.
Plus too many referee timeouts can change the game dynamics especially if one team has momentum.
...though Clemson may actually have a better shot(considering their schedule).
As for Michigan, that Illinois game before OSU looks like your a-typical trap game. Think they(Illinois)are getting better each week.
I think UofM smashes St. next week, but only way UofM beats OSU is a ball-control run-game/and no turn-overs.
If UofM keeps it close, might still have a shot at the playoff.
The chicks are hotter at Auburn, coming from a Bama fan.
Yeah I think Wisconsin probably wishes they still had Bielema.
I watched the game as a Bama fan and saw calls called poorly. Both teams have reason to be a little miffed at the officiating. Especially in the era of video replay.
Vol fan here and I was going to say the same thing.
You could drive a truck through the holes Michigan was opening up against Penn State. If it weren’t for two plays, the final is 41-3. Michigan had 18 first downs to Penn State’s 1, at halftime.
Wahhh wahhhh wahhhh,….
Well, it is easier to get in to, so it wouldn’t surprise me.
FSU has some smoking hot chicks as well.
When you have at least one arm wrapped around the receiver before the ball arrives, and you are visibly pulling the other player away from the ball, that is pass interference.
For the off-side and false start penalties you have to know it was so loud it set a record of 124 db. As far as the pass interference, Bama had to do something because the Vol receiver had 5 (count ‘em) FIVE touchdowns. Last summer Hyatt caught 15,000 balls in practice and the number one wide receiver was out. This was Saban’s first loss to the Vols as Bama’s coach, he didn’t like it.
Tennessee didn't win because of the men in striped jerseys, the won because of the man in the crimson polo shirt.
I got a grad degree at Alabama but now work at Auburn. I have to admit, there is a very high percentage of coeds at Auburn who are very but very beautiful.
During the days after San Salvador’s 1986 earthquake when we were without power and had little to do at night in el Centro, I often talked to an Austrian who had traveled Europe widely. I asked him what European country had the most attractive women and he answered, “Sweden”. I said, but I’ve heard that Finland has lots of beautiful women. He said, Finland has some beautiful women, but Sweden has some women who aren’t beautiful”.
‘Refs make bad calls and while we gripe about them generally the bad calls even out.’
not really; the tide had 17 calls, the vols 6...
“The Tide had 17 penalties and lost by themselves.”
????????????????????????
But that’s exactly what Saban was complaining about!
The refs calling too many penalties on Alabama.
‘If they had run just three seconds more off the clock before the missed field goal, Tennessee would have lost.’
since the score was tied at 49 apiece at the missed FG I have reason to believe your statement cannot be true...
There were a couple bad calls that resulted in penalties, but there were calls that should’ve been made but weren’t - like the hit right in Bryce’s face mask
I am a Bama fan, dyed in the wool. But they got beat by a better team Saturday. Hooker is a deadly passer.
It’s Hooker’s Heisman to lose.
Do you know the difference between a toddler and a Bama fan?
Eventually a toddler outgrows whining!
