A North Carolina father-of-one spent 24 hours in jail for refusing to wear a mask as ordered by a judge despite no state or county mandates in place.

Gregory Hahn, 47, a US Navy veteran, was among several of 98 jury duty candidates called to Harnett County court who showed up not wearing a mask because there were no such rules or warnings in place, WRAL reports.

Despite the fact that masks aren't required in the building, Judge Winston Charles Gilchrist mandated that everyone in his courtroom wear a mask.

“Judges’s authority is absolute” aw

Wrong!

(Maybe, if you let them. But, isn’t that the way with all bullies?)

Some judges are well known for being petty tyrants. I’ve encountered more than a few in my career, and rarely, but sometimes, they do get their comeuppance. Once in the early ‘80s a lawyer wore a pink shirt to court, and the judge was offended. Those were the days when pastel colored dress shirts were briefly popular. The judge railed at the attorney, warning him never to appear in his courtroom again in a pink shirt or he would be held in contempt. As the story circulated, the local bar became more and more incensed, and organized a response. Every lawyer who had any type of civil case put a matter on the docket to be heard on the next Friday Motions day before that judge. When the judge came out that day his courtroom was packed solid with attorneys, all wearing pink shirts. To his credit, the judge smiled and said okay, all right. Then he sat there just smiling talking it all in, before he said “Can we have time estimates”?

This judge was being a tyrant, but trying to get out of jury duty is thoughtless and selfish.

"Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God." - Thomas Jefferson

Judge Winston Charles Gilchrist belongs in a cell himself. He abused the legal system to violate a man's rights.

Your personal frustration as a judge about not enough people showing up for jury selection should make you one of the largest supporters of having Judge Gilchrist disbarred and thrown in prison. - Who would ever show up as a juror for such a delusional, ignorant, egotistical, and petty little man ever again?

The word is now out; if you're summoned for jury duty in that court, you need to hire a lawyer.

Who would ever show up for jury duty in that court ever again? Judge Gilchrist is only part of the problem. The entire court that allowed his behavior is complicit in his crime against an innocent juror.

Just as despicable: the LE who aided and abetted the judge.

They always do. 'law enforcement' in this country are the enforcers for the police state and it's edicts, not matter how insane or unreasonable.

I once got a parking ticket at jury duty.

I wrote a letter that said i was compelled to arrive and that thee was no sign near where I parked.

In other words, I said No.
