The voters have spoken, and if they made one thing clear, it was that B.C.’s 2022 municipal election were about one thing: change.
Across the province, voters turned out to turf sitting civic leaders, and nowhere was that ornery mood more clear than in Metro Vancouver, where six cities dumped incumbent mayors.
The big headline was in Vancouver, where Ken Sim trounced incumbent Kennedy Stewart by double digits in a rematch of the tight 2018 election, and swept to power with his entire slate.
In Surrey, beleaguered Mayor Doug McCallum was narrowly defeated by former councillor Brenda Locke.
Like Vancouver, West Vancouver was a rematch between incumbent Mary-Ann Booth and Mark Sager, whom she defeated by just 21 votes in 2018.
Also like Vancouver, this time the outcome was nowhere near as close, with Sager more than doubling Booth’s vote share.

The people are rising up.
Less than 30 days to the American elections.
Hopefully we can do the same, such as getting rid of Mayor Hillary Schieve here in Reno.
I assume these are “Canada First” victories eliminating Canada’s version of “RINOs”and lefty pols?
I’m sure their lefty parties will start taking direction from U.S. Democrats as to how to steal elections.
I wish we could get rid of MayorYorkass. Where the hell did Jo Jo the Clown ever find him? He acts like at one time he may have been an extra on Maimi Vice on a weekly basis.
Mayor Barbie? lol...Isn’t she term limited out yet?
Hope this is a good sign. My daughter is running against a long-term Counsellor for our rural community. She’s been working her heart out, along with her farmer husband. They’ve been around to every door....twice.
One more term available to her. I put up an Eddie Lorton sign in my yard. I’ve noticed he has signs all over town and there are absolutely none for Hillary Schieve. I can’t figure out if she thinks she can win without campaigning (and relying on cheating) or if she has already concluded she’ll lose next month and has folded early.
I’m crossing my fingers too. We lost our Atlanta suburb state house seat to a Democrat two years ago. It had been Republican for a couple decades. That Democrat had personal issues, so now it’s an open seat. I’m cautiously optimistic that the new Republican candidate will prevail. I’ve been talking to folks, putting out signs and have contributing.
Hopefully people are waking up to the disaster of Leftist policy.
Lets do it America clean sweep and then we turn the vise on those who resist
Many people are waking up, but the number of people who are religiously tied to OR AFRAID OF the woke crowd is stunning. Did you ever think we’d see the day when we’d be afraid to publicly state that there are only two sexes?!
So for folks from this area, what was driving factor behind this vote to change?
The article for the most part does not detail the leanings of the voted out or those voted in. So it is impossible to tell if this was a red, blue or purple wave.
Was the shift from left to right?
Didn’t see any mention of that.
I’m sure their lefty parties will start taking direction from U.S. Democrats as to how to steal elections.

And manipulate the populace with propaganda and control of the media.

So...you can assume it was to the right. When the Left is winning you hear about it.
That’s what I want to know. Were all these officials part of the ‘pro-Truedope, anti trucker’ factions?
Cancel culture is strong. Glad to be recently retired so I can be a lot more unfiltered. I wish I’d told the young man I saw last week at the teller line at the bank, who was wearing pearls, that those pearls do nothing for you.
I think people are starting to be less intimidated. I’m seeing a lot more Republican signs out than 2 years ago, in a suburban neighborhood that’s around 50-50 R-D.
I suppose we are to guess.
Don’t care how obvious it is...it should have indicated how the shift went, because I and many others JUST LIKE TO READ ABOUT THE SWITCH TO SANITY.
