A new study from the Pentagon shows that 77% of young Americans would not qualify for military service without a waiver due to being overweight, using drugs or having mental and physical health problems.
A slide detailing the findings from the Pentagon's 2020 Qualified Military Available Study shared with Military.com shows a 6% increase from the latest 2017 Department of Defense research that showed 71% of Americans would be ineligible for service.
"When considering youth disqualified for one reason alone, the most prevalent disqualification rates are overweight (11%), drug and alcohol abuse (8%), and medical/physical health (7%)," the study, which examined Americans between the ages of 17 and 24, read. The study was conducted by the Pentagon's office of personnel and readiness.

A great movie.
Don’t forget Willy Milley’s Butt-Buddy Lloyd Austin. He ain’t no Slim Jim either. Lots of FAT from that Raytheon Teat he was nursing on.
Thank a Socialist Democrat! A Parent, a CongressTard, a Teacher, a complicit RINO, any stripe. :(
I was a HQs Battery Commander at Fort Bliss: cooks and clerks. We had an hour's worth of PT every day: 20 minutes of calisthenics, followed by a two mile run in formation...led by me, of course.
My PT test pass rate was 99%, 3 failures out of 300, and those three passed a few weeks later.
Agree and most of them are fat feral and stoned not much use for anything not even body parts.
This is BS. This is a dodge to hide the fact that the WOKE politics is what is hurting recruitng. Man, how many people are falling for thi one. LOL!!
You’re buying this BS?
I was in Army Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC the summer of 1979. I was in the very first co-ed training Platoon.
Yes, it got tiring dragging those boys along with us every day, but of all of us, I only remember a very few not making it through.
And it was no cake-walk, and our standards were the SAME as they boys, and there was no PC BS or ‘wokeness’ to deal with.
Also, there’s no crying in Army Basic Training. Well, at least not in FRONT of anyone.
“Cry on your own time, Maggot, not mine!” LOL!
It gets freakier every time I go to the grocery store.
“I really miss John Candy…”
And our Hometown Guy, Chris Farley. :(
I’m still not over John Belushi dying!
Such funny guys.
Of course that fact that the military has turned into a woke social experiment is the biggest detriment of all.
Some People I know don’t even bother to smoke marijuana any longer - they just take their THC in the form of gummy-bears.
PT score standards were the same for both sexes?
I don’t recall that ever having been the case.
In the case of a national emergency the weight and drug use stuff would be tossed aside. Most kids are in a physical state that could be cured with some basic training and diets.
The drug abuse issue is different—but the mil standards are much stricter than most. Where pot is legal the ingestion of it would be disqualifying. In reality, that shouldn’t be a huge issue.
The bigger problem would be during a draft, actually getting the kids to show up would be an issue.
With student loans being forgiven, I am not sure what the attraction would be for a lot of these kids. Of course the tech schools are fine, but kids don’t want to be involved in endless wars and deployments. And their parents haven’t instilled a culture of service. So...those things are much more critical.
This was a big problem during WWI, hence the formation of the American Protective League, and "Slacker Raids". You could literally be stopped anywhere, any time and be forced to show your Draft Registration Card.
If they are overweight? Give them an extended boot camp! Oh - and make it a Keto Boot Camp combined with TONS of walking, then marching, then hikes.
Low carb + high activity = success!
Can you imagine the outrage if THAT happened.
At this stage, neither my children or I would be impacted...so it it might be fun to watch.
Oh, it’s the Leftists Dream to have that kind of control. They want a draft. They see the military as the biggest government social program there is.
The worst part about facing and dealing with a crisis is the people. That is true and very sobering.
