Heads up, FedEx deliveries "signature on file"
9/20/22 | Myself

Posted on 09/20/2022 1:17:29 PM PDT by Openurmind

I know this has probably been going on a long time. Bu I have a problem with the concept. And everyone should.

I just ordered $1000 worth of tires. The shipper sent them free shipping. They use FedEx as contracted.

Long story short, after two weeks of chasing hese down o make sure they actually and finally get to me something happened that bothered me greatly.

The shipper sent them as "signature required". Bu when they finally showed up I asked the delivery guy if he needed a signature. He told me that no he did not because he already applied "signature on file".

I asked him... How do you know it is at the right address and the right person? He told me "doesn't matter, I signed for you and you received them".

But how do you know I am being honest about who I am?

"Doesn't matter, they were delivered".

Personally I am going to make sure they remove my signature from "on file". If they had delivered these to a wrong address and person I would have been out $1000 bucks and would have had to fight with possibly even a lawsuit to get justification.

I strongly suggest addressing this "on file" issue with any and all delivery services you use. No... unless I sign for each and every delivery then it didn't happen.

I had a registered mail a couple of weeks ago (from my credit union).

I was home when it arrived, but the USPS never came to my door for me to sign it.. He left it in my mailbox with a card on the back to sign and send it back to the credit union?! 😯😠

Where I live package deliveries show already delivered before the package has even left the post office out for delivery.

Every few months the post office hires a neighbor of mine with a skidsteer to scoop up all the layers of mail at their loading docks out back to put it in the roll away dumpster. About 20,000 pounds of wet ruined undeliverable mail of every type. Unreal.

It’s not clear from your explanation if you did have a signature on file at one time.

Was it Ground or Freight?

So after my complaints yesterday they sent the driver back by at approximately 12:50 PM today 9/21/2022 for signatures.

They are going to claim I did sign for them even though yesterday they did not let me.

I have witnesses...

“It’s not clear from your explanation if you did have a signature on file at one time.

What is the difference? No matter what they should not be applying a “signature on file” to ANY deliveries at all period.

Why are you avoiding my question? Obvious you don’t want answers, you just want to rant.

Because your question has no difference in bearing about the practice.

Are you giving permission to practice this for one but not the other?

I have had them come as all levels of delivery. Level and rate of delivery does not give them permission to do it under any circumstances.

Are you saying that if I let them extort me into paying more then they won’t commit electronic forgery?

I’ll try again:

Have you EVER given them permission to deliver without a signature?

No! Never! I never would and anyone who would do this is an absolute ignorant fool!

I have been in business my whole life, and THIS is about the most ignorant sheeple thing I have run across yet.

If there is no personal signature and time of delivery then it was not delivered!

Especially when the seller and shipper “requires signature”. If FedEx delivers it to the wrong person as the seller and shipper I have no clue if the product actually went to my customer or not.

Now I am on the hook to make it right with my customer. Because I have to give him the benefit of the doubt or lose him as a customer. Now... Is this an honest customer??? I have had many that would absolutely lie and say they DID NOT get the product.

And their first excuse is “prove that one of my agents or myself signed that we received it”. Now as for losses for me, let me educate you with the real math.

If my profit margin is let’s say 25% mark up on an item I sell for $100. And I have to replace an item at full resale cost how much am I really out? Because I am not just losing the profit, I am also losing my cost price for that item, anoher $75.

This means depending on my cost price I now have to sell four for free with no profit to cover that 100% I actually lost, or I can write it off my taxes in which case I am differing the cost to the taxpayers as revenue lost. Not fair at all to the taxpayers...

It is STUPID BUSINESS for both parties, both the shipper and receiver just because a real signature was not obtained at time of delivery.

Now as for a customer who did not receive the delivery... If the shipper refuses to be nice and reship then I am out that 1000 bucks and can’t do a damned thing about it because it was “signed for” with a “proxy electronic signature on file”.

I would have to take it to court for maybe years, which would cost me much more than what the item was worth in the first place. There are a whole bunch of variables to consider that just boils down to very a bad business practice on it’s face alone.

Simple... “Signature required” means “Signature required”. It is not rocket science. It is a thousands of years old business delivery practice. “Sign here”...

You work for FedEx or UPS? Own stock? Because you are either inept, or have a reason to defend them when the common consensus is “yes I am tired of that crap too”. When “that crap” should not be happening in the first place...

There are signed delivery receipts found in ancient Sumeria in clay in ancient CUNEIFORM.

It is not a new thing...

Besides the fact I have a problem with having to buy TWO sets of tires and give one set away for free on my dime because a delivery signature was forged.

This is “spread the wealth” crap that I and most just cannot afford. Fair?

Aunt Agnes puts a ‘signature on file’ because she’s out playing bridge when her cribbage board arrives. Not everyone cares to sign. You must be special.

Many don’t care or have other arrangements for their packages where a signature is not required.

If you put one on file, you must also cancel it otherwise it is in effect till you do.

Since June, Express and Ground are supposed to take pics when delivering. My guess is yours was delivered by Freight which is probably why you had to track it down for two weeks. My guess was it was not delivered to the wrong address rather the shipper did a piss poor job securing it for shipment and it fell apart, with some tires missing the shipping information. So they were sitting on a dock somewhere till FedEx could determine who they belonged to.

During the entire pandemic, signatures were optional. UPS too. Still had to face to face with the customer but a signature was not required.

Still, the driver should not have done this if you wanted to sign.

The sender has the only control over a lost shipment. Work through the company from which you purchased the item. That would also be your recourse for a refund.

Ok... You work for UPS or FedEx then. Obvious.

“My guess was it was not delivered to the wrong address rather the shipper did a piss poor job securing it for shipment and it fell apart, with some tires missing the shipping information. So they were sitting on a dock somewhere till FedEx could determine who they belonged to.”

They were delivered to the wrong address three times. But thank God the receiver at the wrong addresses were honest and they went back to the terminal, for a retry each day. All documented.

Then when they do finally get to me they just applied an “electronic signature on file” after I even offered to sign. Give me your email and I will send you the text chain of it all to prove what I say is absolutely true...

They would not stand a chance in court over their neglect and deception throughout the whole delivery experience. The signature issue was just a small part of this whole mess.

And it is not the first time it has happened. We also have several prior failed deliveries documented with the same issues.

I will have to say that I finally was able o make a contact who was very heplful in finding it, and making sure it DID get delivered. But it was like pulling teeth o get this lucky and finally get my product.

It cost me about about 20 hours of hardship, phone calls, and work to do it. Where is my 20 hours because of their incompetence?

Now I hear you saying “then your address on file was wrong and it is your own fault”. Nope... Same business address and name for over 40 years for ALL package deliveries to us from all carriers.

And here is he kicker... We ordered from the shipper on the east coast in the afternoon, by the next morning they were on a truck from a west coast terminal “out for delivery”. We should have received these 6 tires basically overnight.

Bu because of incompetence and a system of chaos it took a week and a half just to get from the local terminal to us. Back and forth, back and forth, and if I had not chased them down they would have sent them back.

Now the real cause? Turns out GPS was wrong and the driver didn’t just pull up Google maps to find us. And heir system completely ignores he Zip Code map... GPS is much smarter than the Zip Code map...

This is bad management, policy, and system design from top to bottom. They need me to route this stuff, I could save them millions a year in overhead using common sense.

Ever track a package on their own system that keeps going back and forth for no reason at all even though it could have been delivered the next day? I know I am NOT THE ONLY ONE...

What if the shipper says “you signed for it” even if you did not receive it or sign for it? THIS is the problem with “signature on file”.

And they had my phone number, all they had to do was call. But they didn’t because their system and they are smarter than I am about where I live and who I am. lol

Welcome to the new “woke” management and business model. I told the driver when he finally got here. “Throw that GPS away and learn how to read a map!”. Or just call! A two minute phone call would have cured the whole delivery issue the first time out for delivery.

I have no clue how much it cost them in wages and fuel for this mess... A BUNCH! Much more than they were paid to deliver the product. That is FOR SURE.
