Seeking an excuse to eat some apple pie this fall, I decided to write about one of the things that’s been a mystery to me since moving to Vermont about a decade ago: cheddar cheese on apple pie. I had no idea that investigating this custom would be a headfirst dive into a pool of stark division.
People have strong feelings about cheddar cheese on apple pie. In a recent, very unscientific poll I conducted among my own social media followers, 45% of responders said they’ve never had cheddar cheese on their apple pie—and they never will. Meanwhile, 21% said they love it, and 30% said they’ve never had it, but they’re curious.

A scoop of vanilla ice cream on warm apple pie is good.
I have never had it but I would try it. Cheese and fruit is a good combination.
Big old thick slice of sharp cheddar is THE BEST. Zap it in the mic with the pie. I eat cheese and apples as a snack.

In Wisconsin, Apple Pie is served with Cheddar Cheese. Nobody messes with the, ‘Apple Pie Cheddar Cartel’ I tells ya! NOBODY!

I truly think it is a head full of mush in Washington District of Corruption that is dividing the nation. Along with the rest of the denizens of the District.

I like apple pie with ice cream, whipped cream or cheddar cheese. All good but not all at once!

Vanilla Ice Cream, sometimes butter, rarely cheddar, but it’s ok on apple pie.
Nutritionally, is cheddar cheese on apple pie that much different from ice cream on apple pie? Your stomach has no taste buds, pretty much has to accept what gets sent down there.
Is that cheddar in the pic? Because it doesn’t look like it.
Anyway, my mom always did stuff like that, i.e., put cheese, brown sugar, AND nuts on apple pie. The result was like a gooier form of lembas.
