It's been a number of years since I last posted this and recently decided to start doing this again.
As you know, I regard most Freepers to be very well-read individuals. I like to know what people are currently reading. it can be anything - a NY Times bestseller, a technical journal, a magazine you picked up at the grocery store, etc.
Please do not ruin this thread by posting "I'm reading This Thread". It's not that funny. Seriously.
I'll start...
I'm reading "Gettysburg: the Second Day" by harry W Pfanz. It's a deep book covering in extensive detail - yes you guessed it, the second day of the battle of Gettysburg. I just finished "Gettysburg: The First Day". I would not recommend either book for anyone looking for a good initial read on this battle but others may like it.
Well, what are you reading now?
Thanks Chode, it is all coming true.
That series isn’t so much sci-fi, rather alternate reality. Due to unkown force(s) at work a 21 century mother and two children end up in 13th century Wales. But end up bouncing back to their home earth and back on occasion.
A better alternate history universe series would be the one that started with “1632” by Eric Flint.
As for full on sci-fi, I’ve been reading the “Spinward Fringe” series by Randolph LaLonde (b.1974) which I’ve very much enjoyed.
Weren’t all the Apostles except for Judas Iscariot also Benjamites?
Thomas B. Costain’s trilogy on the Plantagenets one of my favorite reads from back in the ‘70s along with “The Daughter Of Time” about Richard III.
A Lie Too Big to Fail: The Real History of the Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy by Lisa Pease
Improve Your Chess Calculation: The Ramesh Chess Course (Volume 1) by Ramesh RB

Just finished reading a new biography of James Madison by Jay Cost. Highly recommended, as is his previous book, “The Price of Greatness” about the relationship between Madison and Hamilton.
Thanks for the recommendations!!
A quiet, wealthy, plantation owner, Jack Hinson watched the start of the Civil War with disinterest. Opposed to secession and a friend to Union and Confederate commanders alike, he did not want a war. After Union soldiers seized and murdered his sons, placing their decapitated heads on the gateposts of his estate, Hinson could remain indifferent no longer. He commissioned a special rifle for long-range accuracy, he took to the woods, and he set out for revenge. This remarkable biography presents the story of Jack Hinson, a lone Confederate sniper who, at the age of 57, waged a personal war on Grant's army and navy. The result of 15 years of scholarship, this meticulously researched work is the only account of Hinson's life ever recorded and involves an unbelievable cast of characters, including the Earp brothers, Jesse James, and Nathan Bedford Forrest.

A Novel By James A. Michener
one of my favorite authors. I met him once when he came to speak to our High School Quill and Scroll Honor Society in 1965 (or it might have been 64????). Somehow I missed reading this book for all these years, but really enjoyed it.
Back issues of Penthouse Forum.
I am reading “A Genius for War” about General Patton for like the fourth time. It’s just a good story.
Skinwalkers at the Pentagon
It is putting me to sleep at night when not making me nauseous. The fawning praise of Senator Dirty Harry is just gross.
It does have a few insights into the recent UAP flap. Got it for free with my Amazon Unlimited. Worth the price.
damn...
Book of Joel, OT, KJV
How to be Humble in 5 Weeks. I’m proud to say it only took me 2 weeks.
Please excuse the fact that I can’t remember the author’s:
“At the Springs with George” is about Washington’s connections to Berkeley Springs (Bath), WV.
“Civil War Winchester” and “Shenandoah County in the Civil War: Four Dark Years” are books that talk about the day to day lives of the civilian population during the Civil War.
I am currently in the third of six books in the Everyday Life in America Series.
