A group of armed thugs slashed a 30-year-old tourist from Belgium in the face Saturday morning in an unprovoked attack at a Chelsea subway station, police said.
The four or five assailants set upon the victim as she walked down the southbound staircase with a group of companions at 8:43 a.m. at the A/C/E station at West 23rd street and Eighth Avenue, police said.
The attackers approached her and cut her face, leaving her with a wound that was treated at the scene, the NYPD said.
The victim was seen talking to police after the attack with a bandage on the side of her face and neck.
“It was like a family of tourists. You could just tell they weren’t from around here. Maybe European. They were speaking English, but with an accent,” said one woman who saw the victim.

Unprovoked? Nothing stolen? No description? No talk of a hate crime. The Post can at least confirm or deny and let their readers determine for themselves. Leaving it open to speculation only makes people think the worst. When will our Government and our media (and the Post is better than most) start to not treat us like children. Hiding the facts, hiding the details doesn’t make us feel better or tamp down anything... human nature only makes you think the worst when the facts are hidden. It makes you think, “what and why are they hiding the details?” I think of Fauci lying to us about the masks at the start of the pandemic so that their would be enough PPP for the health care workers. Well, first, that just assumes the worst about people. Second, it just makes me not trust anything else you have to say because if you lied or hid things from me once, then I can expect you will do it again... and again... and again...

When the first classic Death Wish (Charles Bronson one) came out, an article in Time Magazine said tourism from Japan to the US fell sharply.
Many Japanese people believed Death Wish was a semi-documentary re-enactment film and were afraid of thugs here.

Don't bother sister; get your stuff and go. Be wise and don't come back. There's nothing in New York City worth seeing unless you're a criminal, a sociologist, or an anthropologist.
As a tourist, there are beautiful sites and wonderful people in places all over the world. New York City isn't one of them.

She wouldn’t be any safer in Western Europe. The same sort would have cut her there, too. She may have thought her odds were better in the US. Not after 2019.
