WHO IS THE AVERAGE COSTCO CUSTOMER
Investopedia.com ^ | July 25, 2022 | Richard Best

Ask anyone who shops at Costco (COST) what they think of it and you'll probably hear exuberant praise, along with a list of the great deals they scored on their last visit. More than 111 million people pay an annual membership fee just to get in the door, with fewer than 10% each year who decide the experience isn’t worth the price of renewing. To some, shopping at Costco is close to a religious experience, which might explain why Sunday is its busiest day. For others, going to the warehouse is like going on a treasure hunt. They may be going to get cereal or pet food, but to get there they need to walk past aisles packed floor to ceiling with new inventories of cool stuff. But just who is the average Costco shopper? Keep reading to learn more.

Yup....and, ...

FedMart

FedMart started off as a membership-only store for jewelry, furniture, and liquor. However, it expanded to offer groceries and other items. In fact, it was the first store of its kind to offer an in-store pharmacy, which is a hallmark of stores like Costco today. It opened in the 1950s and went out of business about three decades later.

My experience tells me that the average Costco customer is a large Asian family who like to all shop together and block the aisles as much as humanly possible.

Or Indian (dot not feather) at least in Minnesota.

Here in North Jersey:

1. East Asians (Chinese and Koreans)

2. South Asians (Indians)

3. Filipinos

4. Whites and various Latinos tied for fourth

I just bought hearings aids at Costco, and saved myself $5000.

No kidding… I’m perfectly happy with my early HD TV’s. Of course I remember having to stand on one leg like the Karate Kid holding the rabbit ears over my head to clear up the “snow” on our 18” B&W set.

Ooh, the lattice top apple pie? I miss that. Found I was prediabetic four years ago, so I went carnivore. Doesn’t stop me from looking when I go to the meat department. I’ll bring one home one of these days.

Whether these bulk places are a good deal or not seems to definitely have a regional element to it. Not that Costco or Sams is changing prices by region but by who the competitors are that they are being judged against.

Its similar to some of the conversations that occasionally pop up regarding prices and which is the best grocery store chain. Sometimes it really seems that the more common chains across the majority of the South (dont know much about Florida) are working together to fix prices at a terribly high point. It not uncommon for someone around here to comment that if they watch the sales then they can get a pound of name brand Thingy for only $5.99 at GrocerX and a quart of Whatsit for $4.59 at GrocerY when I can get either at my same local store regular price for only $3.

She did that as well. Abd not on anything fun either. Always more courses and tapes by ‘gurus’ who promised success with their surefire programs.

There’s no doubt (smart), but it’s mostly just buying for me. So it will be interesting to see how things shake out if they double the fee.

“I have to travel two hours to get to any Costco.”

You can move closer.

“And I’ve seen the fees to get a membership at Costco. I’d be surprised if you save enough on their products in total through the year to cover that fee. I’ve also seen how packed their parking lot is all the time, there’s no way the hassle and dealing with those packed aisles and waits at the checkout can be worth it, no freaking way!”

I take it you have never been in a Costco!

We have the executive membership @ $120/yr. Excluding major purchases we spend about $500 per month just on food, shirts, shorts, wine, etc.

We get 2% back which recovers the $120 fee!

They’re Massachusetts based, so I can see the attitude problem.

LOL! Sad but true. Connecticut, as well.
