WHO IS THE AVERAGE COSTCO CUSTOMER
Investopedia.com ^ | July 25, 2022 | Richard Best

Ask anyone who shops at Costco (COST) what they think of it and you'll probably hear exuberant praise, along with a list of the great deals they scored on their last visit. More than 111 million people pay an annual membership fee just to get in the door, with fewer than 10% each year who decide the experience isn’t worth the price of renewing. To some, shopping at Costco is close to a religious experience, which might explain why Sunday is its busiest day. For others, going to the warehouse is like going on a treasure hunt. They may be going to get cereal or pet food, but to get there they need to walk past aisles packed floor to ceiling with new inventories of cool stuff. But just who is the average Costco shopper? Keep reading to learn more.

“If you rent cars frequently, you can usually make your fee in one or two rentals.”

We don’t rent cars frequently, but when we do we get cheaper rates through our Costco membership. Plus there’s no extra charge for an additional driver.

We’ve saved more than our membership costs.

Purchases in the store probably aren’t at a savings, but some of what they sell are things we like that you can’t get anywhere else.

We only go about twice a year and spend about $500/trip. You get cash back each year based on your the amount of your purchases.

W have their Visa card and also get cash back with purchases made on that.

The employees seem to be in a good mood almost all the time —happy to be there.

“Naa, since neither company has an attitude.”

Well there is that advantage.
You don’t have worry about your car being put on blocks and stripped while you are inside Costco for 30 minutes.
Sams Club; maybe a different story.
But maybe yours is better

LOL, but it’s works the other way. Given that Costco is the ‘upper crust’ place to shop...bad guys know that.

We closed our business down at the mall five weeks ago. Heavy hearts. We’d been there for a few years. It was our granddaughter’s dream after graduating from college. Years to build…a weekend to dismantle. The pandemic scared shoppers to death. They disappeared. Plus we had a much publicized massacre at a nearby Walmart a few years ago. Over 25 killed. Given its proximity to the mall, everyone had to shelter in place for hours in the parking lot only to learn the shooter had never been in the mall. They caught him in an apartment complex nearby. It’s been so hard on everyone. That’s why it makes no sense at all for there to be an Antifa or BLM. Ordinary business owners were already suffering.
Our Costco rewards have lessened as well. We’re gonna hang on for a year because we’ve love being members.

Chaos usually does it’s job.

>>When I signed up for new membership, they gave me a rotisserie chicken, a dozen cupcakes, and a $10 credit. I said gosh!!<<

Somewhat the same here, but not only did get all of what you did, but by buying my membership via a limited time offer on Stack Social, I got the membership for $20! Had to research it, to verify it wasn’t a scam.

In Nanuet NY (Rockland County)the average customer( and I am taking liberties here) is a large Orthodox Jewish family from nearby Monsey and adjoining towns. The entire family is there sometimes 3,4 young children, walking or in the carts, and they have NO trouble in returning items, the bigger and more already well used, and most expensive , the better. I have never seen Costco turn one of them down, however absurd the return. To do so would be asking for trouble.

>>my time is worth FAR MORE than the $2.00 a tank I save GEEZE!!!<<

What do you do *productive* with that saved time?

For me, my time is my own; and I can listen to music, read or pay bills, or trim my nails just as easily in line, as I can sitting at home at my desk.

Do you remember FedMart?

That was a great store. Sometimes wonder if it was a predecessor to Walmart and Costco. (Only, without the membership fees!)

Almost like a cross between the two.

“Given that Costco is the ‘upper crust’ place to shop...bad guys know that.”

In our area, the bad guys would get chased down in our Costco parking lot.
And for real at the Sams 10 miles away, totally different world.
It really is a different place,
But I have no problem going to either one.

Hmmm. I don’t remember them. My dad was in the Army and we moved so many places. I barely became acquainted with anything but the base commissary and post exchange. Then I married into the Army as well. I don’t think I saw my first shopping center until I was 25.
I just researched them.Nope. I didn’t know them.

For Costco to be worth it you need kids, so it works for me. I would be bankrupt if I tried shopping for what I get at Costco. Also, I would rate Kirkland branded food and items with an over 90% certainly they are of good quality and value.

Fed Mart was founded by Sol Price in San Diego as a government employees only membership store, becoming a Discount Store with groceries by the 1960s. In the 70s Price sold Fed Mart to a German retailer (who by the 80s ran it out of business) and started Price Club.

Costco Executive membership is about $120. Every year I get at least $300 check from Costco. The are paying me $180 per year to shop at their store.

Several years ago I got 4 new Michelin tires put on my SUV. Cost about $1000 with install and balancing and the like. A year later I noticed the tires were wearing down way too much. I brought my car in and they told me they installed the wrong tires and they would fully refund me because they did not stock the proper tires. I drove on their tires for a year free then went to a great tire shop and got 4 new tires with the check.

I cannot complain about Costco.
