Ask anyone who shops at Costco (COST) what they think of it and you'll probably hear exuberant praise, along with a list of the great deals they scored on their last visit. More than 111 million people pay an annual membership fee just to get in the door, with fewer than 10% each year who decide the experience isn’t worth the price of renewing. To some, shopping at Costco is close to a religious experience, which might explain why Sunday is its busiest day. For others, going to the warehouse is like going on a treasure hunt. They may be going to get cereal or pet food, but to get there they need to walk past aisles packed floor to ceiling with new inventories of cool stuff. But just who is the average Costco shopper? Keep reading to learn more.

” Tv sets are expensive.”
No one can beat Costco on TV’s.
Costco prices are as low as anyone’s! The last several I bought had five year warranties.
Costco free delivery takes it out of the box, sets it up in your location and turns it on to make sure it works.
” They don’t even display 8k yet.”
How many 8k’s do you have? About the only thing in 8k are some youtube videos ...
The 4k’s are more than impressive!
Even the quality of 4k movies from the likes of Netflix fails to fully take advantage of 4k TV capabilities.
“Based on the girth of many of the cart pushers, I would guess many of the bulk food buyers are having to eat their food before it goes bad. “
You were in Walmart!
“Check out lines, at least 20 minutes.”
We regularly get through in less than 20 minutes.
“Costco used to be much better. There were one of a kind, quality products, at a great price. Not so much anymore.”
We have been shopping Costco for over 20 years. Better now than before
“Pizza and hot dog/soda are good deals, but condiment/soda dispensers look like they are not kept clean.”
For $1.50 hotdog combo you expect full-time service? Actually I have never seen unclean dispensers. Sometimes a little messy but not unclean.
“I shop at Sams instead, as I don’t see the need to Virtue Signal.”
That statement itself is actually virtue signaling!
You are stating that going to Sams is more virtuous than going to Costco
Costco is great. I go 1x a year. Costco started in Seattle and modeled its business after Gemco. Costco buyers get a small variety and the best of things, such as wine and cookies. America is the land of plenty and Costco proves it. Sitting at the red tables in the sun eating a hot dog is fun.
Quite the opposite. I also don’t own a Tesla, as I don’t see my car as tool to Virtue Signal either.
“I let my membership expire I spend way to much money just entering a Costco best for me to STAY OUT of there!!!”
We usually go by in the wife’s SUV but sometimes when out in My Mustang wife will say she needs to pick up a couple of items at Costco.
A couple of items turns into my saying my Mustang won’t hold another item.
you’re right. Saving 50 cents a gallon and grabbing a $5 chicken makes it all worth it!
After selling my business, I quit Costco I hen my ‘rewards’ was less than the membership.
Only reason I rejoined is for gas & the Citi card rewards, and have yet to spend a penny in the store in 6 months.
If the card rewards don’t pan out, no way I’ll keep the membership if it doubles since a local gas station is always within less than a nickel of Costco gas prices.
I’m little interested in returning to buying too much crap I don’t need.
Those are the exact reasons I went to a Walmart near me in west Houston once several years ago for a baby shower gift and never, ever went back.
It was a freakin’ zoo. And that was at around 8:00 a.m. on a rainy Saturday morning.
Just because people like Costco and express why, doesn’t mean they are “virtue signaling “.
I like Pepsi better than Coke.
Is that virtue signaling ?
I have to travel two hours to get to any Costco.
“Maybe, but for me the price of membership, the 40 miles each way to the store, and the slight the mark down price savings means I have to buy tons of stuff to make it come out even.”
40 miles is a stretch. We have three in a triangle, each about 20 miles away. At least once a week we are in the neighborhood of one of them for other reasons so it is easy to combine the Costco shopping.
“Than what I pay?”
What do you pay?
“I like Pepsi better than Coke.”
I hated it when Costco switch to Pepsi in their soda machines!
“I like Pepsi better than Coke.
Is that virtue signaling ?”
Naa, since neither company has an attitude.
“I’m little interested in returning to buying too much crap I don’t need.”
Shop smart. Buy only what you will use.
Just our annual purchase of pool chlorine tablets (plus gas} pays for the fee.
Just our savings on cheese is more than the fee. I love their sliced cheddar ($9 for 2#) and we eat a lot of shredded also. A lot cheaper than the grocery store.
We often shop at Costco, and I have learnt to stock up
on non food items when they go on sale. Items such
as tide, ziploc bags, cat litter, collagen powder, etc.
The 2% back we get pretty much pays for the membership.
The savings in gas is more than just 10cents a gallon, even
at Sam’s it’s more than 10 cents. Their bakery department has
decent pastries. I like their no hassle returns, and they offer price adjustments.
“and they offer price adjustments.”
30 day limit BUT there is a loophole.
