Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, celebrated annually on Sept. 1, was founded by a Wisconsin software engineer in 2014 to pay tribute to his longtime companion.

Chris Roy of Milwaukee founded Ginger Cat Appreciation Day in 2014, after the death of his orange cat, Doobert. Roy had taken care of Doobert ever since finding him as a stray kitten 17 years earlier.

The feline also inspired Roy to found a company called Doobert, which aims to use information technology to match animals in need of care with specialized rescues and volunteer transporters around the country.

Other holidays and observances for Sept. 1, 2022, include

Building and Code Staff Appreciation Day,

Chicken Boy Day,

Emma M. Nutt Day,

National Cherry Popover Day,

National No Rhyme Nor Reason Day,

National Tofu Day,

Pink Cadillac Day,

Save Japan's Dolphins Day,

Toy Tips Executive Toy Test Day

and

World Letter Writing Day........................

Neat-o! Our Coco is 8yrs old, smart as a whip, and our little cutie!
She and our other cat, 3 year old Charlie (not a ginger) keep me going from the first moment I walk out of the bedroom til I head upstairs to hit the sack at the end of the day.
They are both indoor cats, and Coco finally snuck out the other day, right under my nose as I was getting the mail. She enjoyed her freedom for two hours until one of the neighbors rang the doorbell-“is this your cat?”
My nickname for her, “little stinker”.
We love her to death!😻

Never owned a ginger -

We've got a calico, a black-and-white (tuxedo), and a white-and-black (cow cat).

A family member has ten housecats! All rescued. They love their critters like kids. He designed a special cat litter box that takes care of any ordor. Built fun towers for them. And they all have regular vet visits for checkups etc.

While I can’t imagine having that many cats in house... he is now considering building a specific cat room on his house.

We had one named (coincidentally) “Ginger”. She was so so sweet. Had her from 2003 to 2018 and never had one health issue. She saw the vet once to get required papers to fly when we moved.

Three of our cats have been tuxedo types - all very sweet - and SMART! - and healthy.

I had a ginger and white tabby cat I miss alot. Best cat ever had! Found him on my second floor deck on a bitter cold snowy and icy night, hiding under grill cover. ook him inside, gave him some tuna. ....and he never left my lap that night!

Took to the vet next day who said he’d been outdoor cat for quite awhile as even his paw pads were callosed. So I made him my own and never looked back. Spoiled him like crazy and he knew it too!

My ginger Maine Coon lived to be 23 years old. He was so good natured and communicative; would have talked if he could have.
